I recently bought a couple of these Pen Torches...
...It is made out of metal, but it is "rubberised"; given a rubber coating (to add grip, I guess).
I want to strip away the rubberised coating and turn it into a replica of the Second Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver.
Does anyone have any advice on stripping away rubberised coatings off metal?
Perhaps wet/dry sandpaper? Go up in grit gradually to smooth it out?
if you have a spare, try oven cleaner and see where that gets you. It should melt it right off.
Acetone is very unkind to most rubbers and plastics, but is actually very safe to use. Try some fingernail polish remover if there's any around the house.
Yep. Acetone is the way to go and can be found at most hardware stores.
I've used it to remove "rubber" coating grips on some utincils awhile back. Just use a steel can to place your pen in, fill up the can and let it soak.
