Jul 7, 2012 - 3D metal printing, laser cut, folded, vac forming...what could we make? #1

One of my best friends has his own metal working business. We were chatting tonight about all the various techniques he uses to produce stuff and I immediately thought about all the cool props we could make.

He's a big movie fan too and was really into the idea of making some prop related stuff.

He can do 3d scanning and printing, laser cutting, precision folding and so forth. Away from the metal work, they also make vac formed parts on a professional machine.

What would be unique and interesting to offer to the community? What replicas, parts or kits would you like to see offered?

Not really a prop but I've been sketching up some designs for an E11 blaster stand to be made in aluminium. I have been making stands by hand and as I have been getting more requests for them I thought it might be good to do a proper run.
On a side note I also need a brake pedal for a Harley machined

Stands are a good idea - maybe helmet stands, blaster stands and so forth?

I was also thinking about pulse rifle parts, Vader parts (billets, belt boxes and so on would be very doable I'm told), various sic-fi weapon parts and things like that. Basically, with the machines they have got most anything is doable and if there is enough demand, group runs could save us all some cash.

    Any other suggestions?

Zmanz, what is that? I have to scroll 200 metres east to see the end of it lol.

    Edit: oh gottit. Batman prop.

I know, not the most original choice, but very few people are making it, let alone offering this replica to the fans. I'm on BOTB, and I can tell you this replica would be very popular.

There are a few metal upgrade parts I would like myself but I don't know how typical my collection is.

Just trying to get a feel for what is currently unavailable so we can decide on a first batch of offerings.

A few people have PM'd me with custom one-off item requests from CAD and so on. Whilst that may be possible and it's something we can do, I'd really like to produce a couple of batch runs first so we can keep the unit cost low and fulfil a need in people's collections.
