Hi Gang,

Fuzzual had the great idea that we have a Star Wars Greeblie Discovery Thread where members can post images and / or places to buy those items they have found that resemble greeblies from all 6 Star Wars movies.

For example... those pesky dome panel lights are impossible to find. As a result I came up with the idea to use a door stopper and reflector. :)

Both of these items were found at the local home improvement stores: Door Stopper - Home Depot. Reflectors - Lowes.

With that... Please feel free to post all your ideas and findings to this thread to help with any future projects we decide to take on.

I'll post all my findings this afternoon. :)

Thanks!

I don't have access to all of my "Greebles" or the photos of them, but I thought i would add one of my favorites. Now keep in mind, this is not a "Screen Accurate" peice, and if this thread is screen accurate, i appologize in advance.

At any rate, i am a HUGE TOILET FLANG FAN!!! they look excellant, and if you don't recognize it, even better . . . if you do . . . well, then its just funny!

So hear is what I am talking about:

Another great find was the Windex Bottle Cap: It just happened to be perfect for a little project my father and I are working on:

Here it is in use:

How about Coaxial Connectors (RF connectors)?

A multi-purpose jet pack. Not only does it look great as a displayed Star Wars prop, it also keeps your prop room smelling fresh. :)

These are some great uses of common products.

MOST of the greeblies I'm using for my full scale Millennium Falcon console were found at the local home improvement stores. Here's an example...

Another GREAT greeblie that will eventually find its way within the hull of the Millennium Falcon are used laptop parts. These frame pieces are very detailed and rarely ever scene by the general public making it a GREAT greeblie

More GREAT greeblies are these "terminal strip" and "electric thermostat". They come in several sizes, found at most improvement stores and are great for connecting various wires

One of the most recognizable "greeblies" throughout the SW universe are the little blue and white squares found on many panels throughout the MF, Death Star, etc...

I was able to find these 1x1 inch glass mosaic tiles at Hobby Lobby. These are GREAT pieces to create static (non-illuminated) panels

One of the BEST and cheapest greeblies are simple PVC connectors... Sanded and painted silver, they really bring any panel to life and have that SW look and feel

I tried the door bumper idea to create a red light. I used a little different materials. I had on hand some tail light repair lenses from the auto parts store or from Wal-Mart automotive section. This I like to use for colored lenses of all kinds. Just cut with scissors, peel and stick. Behind the lens is a reflective 3M tape from a roll.

Then I checked the results by holding the assembled lens, tape, door bumper body up to my Star Wars lightswitch cover. And we have this...

When photographed, it certainly does look like it is lit. Later, I will be adding a smooth clear disc lens to the top of it.

silver boxes.JPGI work for a precious metals broker, and we have well over a hundred of these plastic boxes that silver bullion comes in from the US mint, as well as some smaller boxes that come from the Canadian mint. I always thought they would be cool bases to build greeblie panels out of.

When I first began trying to replicate Star Wars props with more permanent materials (not paper like I did when I was real young) the hardware store was the first place I went. My sources for screen accurate parts is now vast with sites like the RPF, but I still find a lot of joy in browsing the aisles of my local hardware store and getting ideas. One of these days I'll build a custom panel or something that will be made entirely of hardware store greeblies.

So, is this thread for real screen-used parts or scratch-build parts?

The lights were IDed as indicator lights on a furnace as far as I can remember.
