Sith Stalker (babw)

quick update,

Ribcage Mark III works! :D I'm currently getting it attached to the vest, it works as one complete piece with it attached to the vest so that's good :) Going to see if local stationers have ink, if so I can add the blood stains to the ribcage, if not will have to order online next weekend and will be a bit longer to wait. Have worked out how to finish the helmet off, though that will mean a trip to Belfast next weekend (after payday) to visit the craft store there. I'm pretty sure local craft store doesn't have what I want, though going to town tomorrow anyway, so will take a quick nip in.

Now... onto the Claws, these things are driving me freaking crazy! I haven't tried Mark IV of them yet, but I have done sketches for them. Not 100% sure it will work, but will try when I get the ribcage finished.

Photos of the ribcage will follow when I get the ribcage attached to the vest. Apart from the Claws <insert swear words> it's coming along well. I will not let the Claws beat me.

progress update

The ribcage is attached to the vest :) but want to get the blood stains on it first before take pics. I'm trying out samples of paint on the same material as the ribcage to see which works out best before applying to the ribcage.

The helmet, I am currently sewing another layer onto it and then I'll be able to paint/or sew material over it. However, I would prefer to paint it, I do have paints in my craft stash and am trying out different ones on sample material (same as the base). To see which one works the best, although I think I already have a winner in the department. I'm going to try and do the helmet, metallic cream. Painting it would be easier, though I can get (hopefully) some cream gossamer fabric (metallic fabric) that I can sew over the helmet base anyway. Though painting it would be more fun.

The claws <insert swear words> I haven't gone near these yet, though I think I might have them worked out. Though true, I said that about them before, I will be doing the sleeves for the costume, so that might solve a few problems.

Still have another lightsaber hilt to make, but no rush in that (not thinking of when this needs to be ready for).

It's coming along well :)

another update :)

This weekend I've been busy, I got the ribcage attached to the vest. I tested some samples of paint to get the look of "dried blood" and the end result was good. Below is a photo of the blood on the ribcage. Haven't taken photos of the ribcage on Thomas Marshal the Lion, because the paint is still drying and planning on going to Belfast on saturday for more materials. Might be able to get a better fabric to cover the ribcage and make it better looking, though I think it works well for the dried blood bit. The ribcage is a darker grey than in the below photo.

I've also been working on the helmet, I've covered the base with cream muslin and cut out holes for his ears. I plan to cover it with either cream gossamer fabric or paint it metallic cream. Still undecided, will most likely do more samples and see what works best. Anyway the mouthpiece, I am going to cover both sides of the mouth piece in another fabric, most likely will be same as for the ribcage. It's difficult to tell in the photo but the sides are built up. I will be leaving the middle piece alone. Wanted to show you the progress of it so far. I think it looks good so far :) especially with the neck skirt.

I have decided to do the sleeves for the Sith Stalker, hopefully this will solve the problems of the dreaded claws. This will be my next step as I need more materials before I can finish the ribcage and helmet.

Tonight I worked on the sleeves and base of claws for Sith Stalker costume. I also did a bit more work on helmet. Below are pics of everything completed so far :) Yes, Thomas Marshal the Lion is in there and don't worry he can breathe okay.

Need to cover base of claws with the claws, need more materials before I can do that. Still need to make shoulder armour and finish off the helmet and need to make another lightsaber hilt. It's getting there, I'm more than happy with the progress so far.

Another update. Tonight I worked on the claws. Photos below are before they went into the oven.

Hand/claws. Tin foil in shape of Lion's paw, covered in chicken wire/jewellery wire then covered in fimo. Two different shades, lighter on top, darker on bottom. The claws have a thick wire insert, similar to picture framing wire and covered in fimo. The Lion picked the colours for the claws, so you can blame him.

Another lightsaber hilt, not 100% happy with this one, because it looks squished but will see how it turns out.

The second lightsaber hilt, I made tonight. I'm a lot happier with this one.

Some random thoughts about the above claws...

It's stormy here, not as bad as some places, but still rain and wind and just ick weather to go out in. There's a high chance I won't be going to Belfast on saturday for supplies, I'll be ordering them online instead, this will give me more time to "play about" with the costume.

One of my friends expressed her concerns about the claws (Mark IV), see pics above. I tried them on the Lion last night, and they work, but some fimo cracked when I was trying them on, it was the distressed claw so no big deal. Then I got to thinking, what happens if he gets bumped? If when someone (and there is ALWAYS someone or several) want to take photo with him? And they cuddle him and the claw breaks? or one of the actual claw bits fall off? The amount of attention he got last year as Bane was amazing and this year, going to a bigger event. Not only that but what if it happens when he's posing for a photo with one of the Star Wars characters?

At the time, I shrugged it off, saying something like it won't really matter. Now, I've slept on it, it kinda does. Anyway, because I'll be ordering supplies online and it will they will take time to get here. I'm going to make claws (Mark V). These will be out of fabric and possibly work better.

NeoRutty: Since you asked, Lion as Bane (he got called Bane Lion & Bane Bear at the event which was funny)

One of my friends made a Meme for him and e-mailed it to the Lion

I plan on doing a Bane Mark II version in the future, which will include a better mask. Though for now, I'm focusing on the Sith Stalker.

Apollo: thank you so much! :)

Making good progress with Claws, Mark V they are working out better than Mark IV :) I have attached better sleeves to the glove bit which will (hopefully) make it easier to attach to the vest. It's also a prettier colour. Will also be able to add the veins to the sleeves easier with the new sleeves. I'm going to use same material as used in ribcage and mouthpiece for the claws.

Still a big list of stuff yet to do with this, but getting there, I'm on a half day today so I'm going to work on finishing off Claws, Mark V and the sleeves today. Though might get more done later on, will see ;) I'm been neglecting my PS3 of late and really want to get some gaming time in.

Anyway, going to get a tea and wee bite to eat then make a start. Will share photos when they are ready.

A quick update:

got more supplies today and currently making the veins for the sleeves, have got some sewn onto one sleeve. Need to sew the rest on, then make some more for the other sleeve and sew them on. Running low on dressmaking pins (I honestly don't know where they go too), hence making the veins one sleeve at a time. Then I'll be making tubing for the claw/sleeve that has tubing and sewing that onto the claw/sleeve. Then will make tubing for the back of helmet, into back when at it and pin it into place.

Then after that I "only" have to cover the ribcage, claws and mouthpiece in silver metallic fabric, I got a top from a charity store today that will look good, when cut up and applied. Then cover it again in gossamer fabric, I might add further detail in silver or grey paint, but will see how it looks. Attach the tubing and "rat tail" to helmet, then cover it in gossamer fabric and attach the mouthpiece to the helmet. Add the detail to the helmet and the flecks of dried blood.

Still have the shoulder armour to make, "bicep"? armour and tattoo on sleeve. Though I don't know if the "bicep" armour will work or not, because he's only a little Lion, might not have the room, but will still make it and see how it looks.

Sorry, if "bicep" is wrong, but you know what I mean. Still a lot to do and time is pushing on! :( Though I am determined to get it finished in time.

:D thankyou HalfPint Harley, yeah this Invasion will be his first one (and mine).

update: still a bit to do on claws/sleeves before they're finished, though I am getting there and hope to get them finished and photos shared soon.

Finally got the sleeves/claws done :) Thomas Marshal is in his jammies and he didn't want to get out of them because it's nearly his bedtime.
Photo of Thomas Marshal looking at camera with both sleeves/claws on. They look different sizes but they're not.

Photo showing "distressed claw", tubing and tattoo on sleeve. The "bicep" armour on the sleeve was very fiddly and made me swear lots and lots and I got some new scars and in the end I threw it away and decided not to do it. Though I may go back to it if I have time and when the thought of it doesn't make me want to scream, swear or both.

Tonight I finished the ribcage :) Covered it in silver metallic fabric and gossamer fabric. I think it looks much better than the earlier version. I plan on doing this with the mouthpiece as well.

SithStalker21Feb.jpg

progress update:

I've got the outer sides of mouthpiece covered in silver metallic fabric and gossamer fabric and have the middle piece of the mouthpiece sewn onto the helmet. Will get the rats tail secured before covering the helmet in gossamer fabric, then sew on the sides of the mouthpiece and that will be the helmet finished. Debating about the tubing at the back of the helmet, due to size of build.

I've also worked out to secure the sleeves/claws onto the vest, once I get that done, I only need to make shoulder armour and that's the costume done. I may re-visit the bicep armour again, will see how I get on time wise.

Quick query about the helmet...

the tubing that comes from the back of the helmet, it goes back in at the side of the neck. Before I start the tubing am I correct?

Tonight I finished attaching the sleeves/claws to the vest. Such fiddly work but am pleased with the results. I also got the base for the shoulder armour made.
