Next helmet Project - Boushh

Since I was on a roll with the Boba Fett helmet I just finished, I decided to jump right in and complete my Boushh helmet.
This is one of Todd's kits and it is FANTASTIC! I cannot say enough good things about the sculpt, the quality casting, the instructions, shipping, etc.

Here's the helmet as it comes in the kit. Such a great sculpt and casting.

I drew out the shapes that needed to be cut out for the visor and scanner sections.

Next I cut out the visor area. A tiny dremel grinder bit worked really well here.

At this point, I assembled the ear greeblies and used a dremel cutting bit to score out the scratches, dents, and blaster marks. I then followed that with a coat of primer. I left the snout clean so that I won't be gluing the leather directly to a layer of primer.

Then today, I hit it with the first base coat of brown. And that's where I am so far.

After the base coat, I went over it with some steel wool to dull the sheen (the casting is almost TOO clean) then hit it with a lighter brown along the edges and in random spots to break up the single brown color, then I hit it with a light mist of black to darken it to the correct color. This gives it a nice color mix of shades.

One of my good friends used some pictures of the screen used helmet to make me some vinyl stick-on decals.

Next, I masked off basically the whole thing so that I could mist the grooves with a gray to give it that dirty, oxidized look of the screen used helmet.

And about 2 hours later, She's starting to look recognizable.
hand brushed the silver, rust, and light brown. Still need to do a couple of areas in gray.

This is a good project :)

It reminds me when I bought the same kit from Todd.

Your weathering job is good. For the leather I made a template to have the right shape to cut on the mouth.
I used a soft glue to be sure I could move it ont the mouth to find the best position.

This is utterly fantastic! I had planned to build a Boushh costume for my late wife, and regardless of her not being around anymore it´s still something I want to do someday, and if it´s just the helmet. I just love the design.

Today I made the template for the leather snout by taping pieces of paper onto the helmet and refitting until it was correct. I then made a trip up to Tandy leather and got some calf hide. Then put it all on this evening. Only thing left is to make the neck piece! The leather is still wet in this picture so it's a little dark and even colored. Once it's dry it'll lighten up a bit and I can weather it.

Wow ... your weathering skills are incredible indeed ... if it weren't for my slightly larger body then Carrie Fisher ... I'd love to crossdress as Boushh on any SW related event ;)

Wasn't Boushh technically male? So Leia was crossdressing...technically. :)

Finished up the neck piece today so aside from nitpicking the weathering I'm done!

This helmet is really well made, good job for everything :thumbsup

The leather has the right color.

BTW : I like how you can display your helmets.
