Greetings RPF folk! This will be my first post on The RPF to document my first EVER build - the Han Solo DL-44 blaster! I became obsessed after watching the Adam Savage DL-44 Blaster build on YouTube and then reading the accompanying article about all the research that went into it (fascinating!) - oh and also listening to all of the Untitled Adam Savage Project podcast. SO, I decided to try building a blaster for myself. First I will preface this by saying that I know my blaster wont be 100% screen accurate, in fact it will be a bit of a Frankenstein monster (but hey, that's in the spirit of the real thing right?). I started by ordering a Denix Mauser from Amazon - I sanded it down, removed the logos and tried my best to refine small details. As luck would have it no good kits seem to exist anywhere I could find - I know about John at Blast-Tech and I wrote him to find out which blaster parts he still had available and found that they were all sold out/discontinued and the only part he had was the front grill (which I ordered). I found replacement wood grips for my Mauser from ebay, I expect these to be a bit of a pain to fit on, but I found a good tutorial for doing it. I was lucky enough to snag one of the few flash hiders still available at Dark Energy Creations - this thing is beautiful. Unfortunately the sleeve barrel was sold out and there are no plans for a second run - so I built my own sort of adapter out of various parts I found at Home Depot to mount the flash hider to the Mauser. I bought a scope from an RPF member that is off of a Master Replicas Elite edition blaster. The last key part I am looking for is the scope mount, I am considering having this made at a machine shop unless anyone has any other suggestions on how I can get one - I'm not really interested in using the resin kit out there. Anyway, I will be posting more progress as I go along. Hints, tips, critiques, or encouragement will be greatly appreciated - thanks!
