OdiWan72´s prop family

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

Why? I heard capri armor is going to be all the rage this summer. :p

Hey....
it is WAY better than the Republic Commando SEV without "pants (lower armor)", that I had on display before :lol

JUST received an email from shapeways, that my Lando blaster conversion parts are SHIPPED
I also had the mount for my Calico based Naboo "heavy" blaster and the "tridisc" printed, which is found on the Hoth scanner and Snowtrooper armor...

Can´t wait to see how these parts came out :cool

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

Damn Markus, that is one hell of a collection. That room looks like the armory of an Imperial barracks. Worried some storm troopers will come knocking asking about missing droids?

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

It's been a while since I dropped in to peruse your ever growing awesomeness. As one has come to expect, it's never a disappointing experience.
It's extremely impressive how you've managed to accumulate such wonders.

Now we don't know what happened to SEV after the RC game. He could very well have lost his pants somewhere. :lol

I see those Calico guns all the time at the local gun shows I just am undecided whether I want to do a Prequel gun over the OT guns I still need.

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

Hey Jason

Even if I have a readily converted Calico, I want to rebuild the Naboo heavy blaster in the future.
I had the weird scope-mount modeled and 3D printed recently.

Speaking of 3D printing...I finally found the time to take a few quick pics of the lando parts. The Ultra detail stuff is nice ;)
Will receive a new scope because mine suffers from some warpage.

Also found the time to -somewhat finish- my ESB EE-3 (real W&S, real ASI, real MPP, real splitplugs). plan to add more accurate stock-squares soon, otherwise I call it done.
Pics to follow ;)

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

That's a really nice looking stormtrooper and the base is very cool, gives it that Death Star look. Have enjoyed viewing all your blasters, it's a great collection and a good point of reference for new people like myself. Can I just ask Markus, do you make, or should I say do you try to make all your blasters from scratch, as much as is possible? Do you ever buy completed blasters or do you always like to build stuff yourself? Just curious.

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

Here are the most recent pics of the Lando general blaster project from last night.
I was able to assemble all parts to get P9S, but will have to redo some details in the future such as...

- Getting rid off the 3D print-lines on some of the parts.
- Redoing the buttons, since they´re about 1mm too small in diameter
- Finding out, how the scope was mounted on the real blaster and redo mine to reflect this...right now I simply added some magnets to the printed scope. In addition to that the orientation of the rear vs. the "finned" section is wrong currently, don´t know if I´ll adress this at all :confused
- Finding out, what the hell the prop dept put on the scopes LEFT side?!
- Replacing the small "wheel" inside the greeblie on the mag-bottom by a knurled disc

Anyway...I REALLY like this blaster, even its look and feel is totally different from the other OT stuff somehow IMHO
On to the pics, straight from the workshop last night :cool

Thanks Andy

There are quite a few approaches to "make" all that stuff.
In many cases I created blueprints with the help of some fellow prop-builders such as lonepigeon & kurtyboy and had some parts machined.
Otherwise I build my blasters with conversion kits/ parts, available through this community OR simply try to find the real parts the prop-dept used on their stuff.
I don´t commission anyone to do my builds, even if I SHOULD sometimes to get better results based on the fact that I am lacking some needed tools to do a few tasks myself.

BUILDING is part of the fun, collecting is something for everybody :p

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...ROTJ Lando blaster ADDED!!!

Oh man! What a collection!! Does anybody do a good naboo royal blaster pistol? The one that padme carries in episodes 1 & 2? There are two versions I believe, one with a short barrel and one with a long one I actually think they were made to extend. Almost like a telescopic fishing rod?? Markus I'm incredibly jealous of your collection. Maybe one day I'll have a fraction of what you do!

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...ROTJ Lando blaster ADDED!!!

I really like it! That pistol looks cool on its own, but it looks like a cool holdout blaster.

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...

How difficult IS it getting rid of 3D print lines? I've been looking at doing a 3D printed baster kit, but finished ones I've seen have obvious print lines under the paint.

I haven't worked with 3D printing at all... and am just getting into the whole painting/modeling prop hobby, but I was thinking there must be a sanding priming sanding way of getting around that look...

There are a few blasters/guns I'm interested in, but before I start laying down heavy cash, I figured I would break myself in on some 3D print ones... however, I would still like the illusion of metallic (before actually picking up the piece, that is).

pointers?

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...ROTJ Lando blaster ADDED!!!

Another very cool blaster and not one I'm too familiar with, add it to the list :)

Congrats!

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...ROTJ Lando blaster ADDED!!!

Thanks guys :)

NeoRutty:
The ultra detail plastic I had the parts printed with is much stronger than resin.
But it can be sanded anyway, carefully trying not to soften the details esp. at the sharp corners/ edges of some parts.
Might even be that a couple coats of sandable primer would adress the faint printlines

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...ROTJ Lando blaster ADDED!!!

And here are some pics of my recently finished ESB EE3
Real W&S
Real ASI
Real MPP
Real splitplugs
Real Molex connectors
Heavily modified sidewinder clamps
Scratchbuilt stock-squares -> plan to add more accurate ones soon, otherwise I call it done.

Thanks for looking, Markus :)

Re: My evergrowing blaster family...ESB EE-3 ADDED!!!

Wow. Very nice. Get a set of Stormrider center stock greeblies. They are the best IMO. Again, very impressive.

Me, too. That really came out great. Very good idea in mounting the scope with magnets. That's brillant.
Was it hard to get hands on that real gun?
