Finished: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Ng'ok is in the mold.. But I ran out of silicone, waiting for the next batch (arrives on friday :() and conceptualizing the next monster "Grimtaash the Molator", while I wait.

This guy is complicated! I'm hoping to joint his main arms, I'll be working on some ball joint concepts today. He's very top-heavy :/, so I might need to look into making a small rotocast machine to help lighten up the head and torso.

I'm gonna need a bigger game board, it's getting a bit cramped! Also think I may just have to upgrade my other figures if you keep up the great quality! (My Savrip and Strider definite look a bit small now)

Looking forward to seeing more!

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Thanks for the pictures Howl! Glad he made it all that way in one piece. I agree about the Savrip/Strider, but he looks perfectly at home next to the Houjix, K'lor'slug and the Ghhhk! I'm glad the scale matched up.

I found some old Silicone in the garage and had just enough to cast up a Molator arm. I found a ball joint system I think works. Now I've been tediously soldering 120 Molatar joints, and hand making 1200 Ng'ok teeth :wacko

Silicone arrives today, so I should be able to get a full Ng'ok cast by Monday.

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

What are you making the Ng'ok teeth from? When I made my own baby Krites (Critters), I cut off the ends of tooth picks, which worked well.

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Howl, that's a good idea. I'm using Sculpey Premo. I don't particularly like working with it, but Its pretty durable after being baked, Id like the teeth to be variously sized, and casting them with the jaw would be difficult.

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Was able to cast a Ng'ok and paint it up. Here's the finished product. I'm pretty happy with the way she (it's obviously a 'she' :lol) turned out, hope you guys like it too. I'm hoping to finish the rest this week.

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Looking good. Sign me up. ;) Looking at the Chronicles photo and the HD screencap, should the overall colouration be a bit more browny yellow? Seems a touch too pale/white in your photo.

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Howl, daylight can sometimes do some funny things. He looks much more yellow/brown under regular lighting:

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Yeah, that lighting makes a huge difference to the colour - looks much more accurate now. ;)

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Ng'ok arrived today. :) He's hanging out with his buddies, but it's starting to look a bit crowded!

And here's the ones that are all in scale with each other:

And your sculpts ready for a fight:

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Holy cow! (S)he looks great in there with the others! After the next one you will likely be the first one ever to have a full set of these guys. Too cool.

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Sorry Its been a while since the last update. Celebration kinda threw a wrench in my schedule, and the week after has been catching up with other work. What a great time that was though! I was very excited to see my completed figures at the Rancho Obi-Wan exhibit on the show floor on one of Rebelscums awesome tables.

I was able to make a decent amount of progress on Grimtaash today. His body is done, but I still need to finish sculpting the second arm and both legs. He's proven to be quite the challenge and I think will likely be the most complicated of them all.

I ended up making a little rotocasting machine (using some plans found here: http://solsylva.com/cnc/rotomolder.shtml) to help with his balance issues as well:

That's awesome. Great to see someone making games from in-universe. Now all you need is a Sabacc set to go with it!

Re: Holochess (Dejarik) Figure Set

Wow! This guy was tough! Sorry for those waiting on this guy, he was a bit of a sculpting and engineering nightmare, but I think he turned out great and will likely end up being my favorite. I should be wrapping up the rest of them throughout the week and then I'm on to the Kintan Strider.

He's a good bit bigger than the last two, and his arms joint at the shoulder. I didn't end up going with fully jointed arms, they ended up being more trouble than they were worth and made him much more likely to break.

Super cool stuff! I too love the in-universe games. We definitely need more of them.
