Han Solo DL-44 blaster: ESB Bespin, Hoth , ANH Hero & Greedo Killer

dang that thing is pretty jacked up. lol. it does have character though.

The front bell should be able to be lathed down. How far do the "steps" go?

I'm not sure about steps?

its really hard to take a decent picture of the inside of the front bell but it looks to just be smooth sides running outwards from the threaded section

I'm guessing that some of these are stepped inside, starting to think there may not be enough metal there to lathe down on mine :(

Definitely think it needs an extra section at the front, I played around with the threaded section from the end of an old bath tap just to get an idea

Made a bit of progress with the Luke ESB, filed down the barrel to fit the flash hider & cut down a bolt for the scope mount

think I'm ready to blue it with the Alu black now :)

Took the scope off my Hoth Blaster & did a test fit with the scope mount

I will use one of the other 2 resin M19 scopes as a place holder on my Hoth for now

blued the Denix with Alu Black, I've mixed the upper & lower from 2 Mauser's, where the lower had been previously painted it was a little harder

stupidly after actually getting a pretty nice even finish from putting it in a ziplock bag with the Alu Black I decided to "fix" a small patch on the lower & went on to make it progressively worse, each time I put on more Alu black it got lighter & patchy-er :facepalm Why don't I learn my lesson

ended up quickly rubbing the lower back down & putting it back in the bag to re-blue, it's better than it was but a lot more mottled (blue, green & brown) than it was 1st time round

currently oiled & hopefully it'll look ok because I don't flancy rubbing down again

also had a go at weathering the flash hider

Just got done reading the whole thread- awesome work! It's crazy that despite having such a hard time finding Denixes and such in the UK, you have such a huge collection! Made me realize I was taking the ability to go on Amazon and buy a Denix at any time for granted. :p There's a bunch of really good info in here; I'll definitely be referring back to here when I get started on making all the DLs I want to have for Celebration VII. :)

I got the Luke ESB put together :)

bit disappointed that I messed with my bluing as I think it was better before I tried to fix it :facepalm

hopefully get a set of wooden grips at somepoint & maybe upgrade the scope

Thanks Scott, but Yeah I need to man up & try to re-shape the Denix triggers :lol

I'm not sure why I'm so reluctant to give it a go but I will at some point

Master Valon: I spend a lot of time complaining about how hard it is to get a Denix here but actually I've managed to get 8 of them in 2 years ;), so they can be found if you're determined but they're expensive & I only know one place that stocks them, so I'm literally always looking for them on eBay or in the Junkyard here & sometimes I get lucky

So far I've got Denix based Han ANH Hero, Han ESB Bespin, Han ESB Hoth, Luke ESB, Han ROTJ, Merr Sonn & most of the parts for my Greedo Killer :)

resin kits are easy to get here but I do prefer metal, I would like to re-do my Luke/Han ESB stunt & the weird ROTJ bunker blaster in metal one day

Wow! Well, that's a great track record. I think I've ordered maybe 4 Denixes in the past 2 years since I started making blasters- so you've got me beat at a 2:1 ratio! :lol

You're in good shape so far! ...So, are you SURE that you don't want to get rid of that ugly, incorrect model, old Compac scope there? :angel (That SHOULD have been mine. :facepalm / :cry)

(I even called ebay up in a huff about it too and complained to them for a little while before I went off to vent somewhere else. :lol)

I actually feel bad, especially after you hooked me up with a lovely M9 Flash Hider

to be honest the scope's in such a state that I probably did you a favour :lol

feeling a bit restless without really any builds in progress I decided to make a start doing what I can on my Greedo Killer,

I need to to cut down the Denix barrel to length for the flash hider & file down the mag well a touch to fit the Grill,

made a bit of a start on the Compac scope, lightly sanding down the bubbled & pitted areas (& adding a tiny bit of filer to the worst of the pitting)

im thinking given how much paint is missing I may be best rubbing the whole thing back to bare metal & completely re-painting rather than trying to touch up

I'll likely use a satin black, not sure if I'm best spraying straight on to bare metal or giving it a coat of primer first

I've already accepted that there is a chance I'll screw it up but it's in too bad a way to use for anything as it is, hopefully it comes out ok :)

~Sigh~ Nah, I'm just a little grumpy about it, you go ahead and enjoy it. :angel

If it was up to me, which it's not, I'd personally end up repainting the entire thing, and while the original Compac scope was pretty beat to hell, even bent in two different angles, the paint on it was pretty solid. From what I can see, the main tube part of the body looks halfway decent, and only the bell looks nasty, so repainting the bell only, for now, should work out OK.

The only other Compac brand scope that sold on ebay this whole year was a completely different model, and looked NOTHING like the correct scope, so I left it alone. These things are a hen's teeth, that's for sure... I'll just wait another couple of years for another chance at one. :lol I'm too thickheaded and stubborn to settle for a resin cast, or even a Weaver scope. Having a completely wrong part, even if it looks similar aesthetically, would kind of kill the spirit of it for me.

On another topic, while I was rummaging around in the storeroom of my Drama Production class at college, I saw a heatsink on both sides of an old lighting control panel that looks EXACTLY like the GK heatsink, only not cut into the correct shape. I can get a pic of it tomorrow, if anyone would like.

Got most of the paint off the rear bell & the knurled ring,

doing my best not to sand too much as I dont want to soften the edges

paints not very thick really

thinking I will rub down the tube as I dont think I'll be happy with the colour match otherwise

Naked Compac scope:lol

decided to go for it & carefully take all the paint off the tube,

stripped back it actually feels & looks in better shape (apart from the damage on the knurled ring & rear bell)

guess I've gotta paint it next

I've got his GK parts made (last ones I am doing before the run of GK parts), and his front bell is on the way here to machine down...

Thanks Scott :)

got an awesome parcel from Texas in the post today

Scope Mount, Flash Hider & lathed down front bell for my scope

the parts are fantastic, can't wait to finally get it all put together

Scope rings fit perfectly on Scott's custom mount & the flash hider adapter is a nice snug fit

I didn't think the front bell would be able to be lathed down but Scott convinced me to send it to him & it's worked perfectly

got some work to do now & try & get this scope painted

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster: ESB Bespin, Hoth , ANH Hero & Greedo Killer

Glad it all got there ok. Interesting how the scope was just slightly larger inside than mine were.

Also so glad the FH adapter was a good approximation for fit without having the part here.
