I had done of these before but I wasn't happy with it, so I decided to do another one with extra special attention to detail this time. I am striving to be a near "forgery" of the prop LOL. I am starting with the basic RE kit.

Ya I am getting there.... :LOL

Here is the AS First Built By The Prop Makers (AFBBTPM) step. I am not sure if it is true or not, but I always pictured the saber pretty clean before the prop guys and Tunisia got ahold of it. I could be wrong...

The next step is the start of the weathering. I am going to blacken the brass and start trashing the windvane ring, just like the books show :)

Little more progress on the weathering today. I haven't blackened the windvane stem yet. Looking at the Mech/Chron pics, the finish on the windvane ring looks different to me than the stem. So I decided to paint the ring and will chemically darken the stem. I had the durndest time trying to replicate the marks on the balance pipe. The steel is very hard and despite some thorough beatings :lol, it is still not where I would like it to be. Any ideas on what the prop guys did to the balance pipe to rip it up so bad?

I have a steel emitter (not sure who made it, but it's dead on accuracy wise) and I believe Boba Dett weathered it chemically. Wherever he is hahaha

I've always just presumed that they put all of the pieces together just as they'd found them.

Your progress is lookin good! Particularly on the balance pipe. :thumbsup

This is what I did to mine with etching and flames/heat. It ended up with a matte finish very similar to the originals. It fought me every step of the way. lol

Got the windvane weathered and done. I used the brass darkening solution I got on eBay (could not find it locally). The last step is to do the clamp and transistors. I got a no-logo clamp in the RE kit, so I am waiting for my logoed clamp to arrive :)

After that comes the final assembly and hoping that I can get all the weathering landmarks to line up right :rolleyes

Well, the clamp I was expecting to have was "no logo" also. Can anyone help me with a replica or real Graflex logoed clamp so I can finish up this build? :)

Is this "basic RE kit" still available for purchase? If so, got a link?

Thanks!

OK here we are, all done!! I am pretty pleased with the results. I put in most of the major landmarks on the saber, but certainly not ALL of them, I don't have that kinda time :D;). I will put some color photos in the RE Weathered saber show off thread too.
