Hi Gang,
I'm home today - have several appointments I need to take care of. But the great thing is the weather is calling for only a 10% chance of rain. I woke up this morning to beautiful clear skies! So, in between I'll be working away...
I decided to use MDF for the paneling instead of the 1/2" ply. Less sanding, better surface

So that part is finished. I've been working away trying to get the quad ready for primer! I was just about to finish the barrels when all of sudden... it's now raining! :angry What's the only occupation in the world where you can be consistently wrong and still show up in the office the next day?

A few minor updates...
Made sure the barrel supports fit. I'm going to add an MDF skin to make smooth
Got the first outer support skin (the green tube) fitted
She's begging for primer...

Normally I would agree with you and had I started the build with the pre-colored formica then it would be a no brainer. But since I'm using custom colors, I really need to stick with what I have. BUT, it would appear I've resolved the cracking issue. I was hoping to avoid the formica at all costs!

Does anybody have ANY advice for me on how to deal with all the warping? When I stored the panels inside they were all either laying on the ground or leaning against the wall in a straight and upright position. Anybody?

Another quick question: Should I continue with the small horizontal details near the tips of the barrels (2 on rt) or keep them smooth all together (2 of lft)?

Hi Gang,
WOW... it's not raining! Getting ALOT done today!
Finally finished all the little details around the barrels
Cut the other side of the quad support arm
Mounting to main support
I had to add shims in place to help adhere the pipe to the wood arm
Not too shabby... I'm going to leave the tops open - I think it looks cool and adds an extra touch of detail
Once this piece dries I'll use the router to remove the excess...
Getting closer to primer! I need to run back to the improvement store for a few bits...

I'll sand off all the raised lettering once I'm ready for primer
Near final - not sure if I should permanently adhere the pipes to the base? Might not be a good idea when transporting...

WE HAVE PRIMER! It came out a bit thicker than I hoped but I'll sand it smooth - no biggie
This is just the primer coat - so not to worry
Hopefully it will smooth out a little during drying
blop blop blop... ugh
I have to wait for these to dry before I can even move them and get to the quad platform... good thing there is no rain!

I am using an electric spray gun. Do you guys think I should invest in a real spray gun? We have a Harbor Freight in town and their stuff is pretty good and inexpensive... Ideas?

Liking the quad greeblies a whole lot there. The rough primer look makes me think of the texture of cast iron similar to old lead painted navy gear. I wonder if that would help in the weathering process - a thin layer of white (or the colour of the Falcon) sanded back to reveal a bit of the surface maybe? Something like that.
