Been working on this project for.....oof, a LONG time. Last year at San Diego Comic Con, they had this large display of props that were from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Once I saw this mask on display, I knew I wanted to build it. I contacted my friend Jacob Morin (who goes by jtm1997 on TheRPF) and asked if he could whip up a 3D model for me.
He DEFINITELY delivered.
Some of the finer details were harder to hammer out since we started working on it back when very little reference was available. Photos from the back of the mask were basically nonexistent. Some of these details we jest winged in the end.
Fast forward a few weeks and the 3D print arrives at my front door.
Lots of pieces. Lots of sanding. LET THE FUN BEGIN.
The pieces were glued together with Gorilla Glue Epoxy. Dries rock hard, and a little goes a long way.
The 3D printed pieces were quite brittle and flimsy, so I used some urethane resin to strengthen the helmet.
Next up, filler primer.
Finished master sculpt, ready for molding.
Lost a bunch of photos of the mother mold being made, but here's how the castings came out!
Me wearing one of the casts. (I blurred out the eyes because they looked super creepy.)
And a little computer magic. ( I suck at Photoshop)
That's where I'm at. 6 days until the movie premier, and I fully intend to wear one to the movie. Wish me luck!
