Hi all! Newbie here. New to forums, new to cosplay, new to casting and mold making, the works.
My first project is ridiculously ambitious for someone who can't sew and has never made a casting or costume. I'm doing a full-blown Loki costume for the boyfriend. I'm probably insane. I'm starting up a thread to show my progress and solicit any and all input, remarks, advice, etc.
Soooo...... here I go!
Spent an evening sketching armor on heavy bristol board. Cut out the pattern to get a decent outline underway. Made a nice arm-shaped clump of tin foil based on general measurements of the arm and shoulder. Didn't want to waste clay on a giant mound when foil is so darn handy.
This scoop was wayyyyy too deep. Ended up rolling out clay under a hairspray can and layering it back into the indented area.
Time for some detailing
Things are well underway. I'm hoping to be ready to cast the first shoulder pieces in the next session.
His shoulder pieces should be mirrored designs, but... I've only got until Halloween to pull this thing off and really want time for the scepter, so I'll probably just do two casts from the same mold. My roommate suggested I de-mold as carefully as possible, then re-tool the clay to mirror the image. I'm flattered by his confidence in my abilities, but we'll just have to wait and see!
Thanks for peeking, any remarks are always appreciated.
