Hi everyone

I just started making new helmet last 6-Nov as my perfectionist brother handed me over the MK8 pep he assembled. I believe he used the pep model made by Labsic.

When I first saw the completed MK8 pep he made, I told myself "this will take a lot of work to make it as accurate as I possibly can".

So I started the resining process and put some markings to portion that needed attention.

Then first coat of body filler...

I put a lot of body filler on the top of the helm (near back side) to make it more round

Also cut and re-attached the chin to correct the under-bite form...

I used fiberglass to re-attached the chin...

I put more body filler...

And more body filler on both sides to widen the helm... notice the ear pods are now buried in body filler... I just have to make new ear pods later...

Lots of sanding and body filler have been done...
DSC06370.jpg

I have made a new ear pods from body filler...

I only worked on one side of the helm...

This is the result of 1-week of work...

Then the biggest shock of my life dawned on me when I checked my 1-week of work and compare it to the reference photos I have...:eek
DSC06407.jpg

I found too many inaccuracy as you can see from the pencil mark I put on the helm...

I am not liking where I'm going on this project and really wanted to just throw away this MK8 helm...

Finally I decided not to push thru making this MK8 helm...:unsure

AND JUST MAKE AN IRON PATRIOT HELM OUT OF IT...:):thumbsup

So at the beginning of the 2nd week I cut the ear pods off... and draw the outline of Iron Patriot helm...
DSC06412.jpg

Cut the cheek part
DSC06414.jpg

Put more body filler and extended the jaw...

Sanding - body filler - sanding - body filler...

Draw the detail lines just to see how it looks...:love

I made a side-by-side comparison of my work with the reference photo I have to check if the overall shape of my helm is correct...

And super-imposed the 2...

I am happy with the result...:):thumbsup

So after 1-week of conversion process, this is the result I have...:love
DSC06530.jpg

All I have to do now is to copy all the details I made from the left side to the right side making sure of the symmetry...
DSC06531.jpg

DSC06499remove.jpg

From the start to now I have used 2 cans of body filler... the helm weighs 2 kilos already :cry

And for everyone's info, I only used 1 grade of sandpaper (grit 60)... will proceed to grit 100, 240 for finer details.

More to come soon...

Thanks for watching and for your time.

Re: Ironman3 MK8 turned IRON PATRIOT WIP (aiming 99% movie accuracy)

It's been a while since I made the 1st post... been busy making everything work on this helmet...

It's really hard to make this helmet since I did not used the correct pep file for it and made the overall shape and details based from few existing photos...

This build may somehow be categorized as BONDO SCULPTURE... LOL:lol

And now for the updates...

DSC06671.jpg

So I managed to transfer the shape and details I made from the left side to the right...
DSC06680.jpg

I did not put any details yet on the back...
DSC06675.jpg

But then looking from a distance I noticed that the helm looks too wide... what do you think?
DSC06673.jpg

DSC06676.jpg

DSC06677.jpg

DSC06679.jpg

Yup... I think its too wide... so I decided to make it thinner...

DSC06682.jpg

BY CUTTING IT IN HALF!!!
DSC06684.jpg

I dont recommend it for everyone... but for a crazy guy like me, it's the most logical thing to do... :behave
DSC06686.jpg

Here you can see what the 3 cans of bondo looked like...:facepalm
DSC06689.jpg

Again this is a very impractical way of doing things...:behave
DSC06691.jpg

I shaved 1.5mm on each half and taped it together...
DSC06707.jpg

Permanently joined the 2 halves using FG...
DSC06708.jpg

DSC06711.jpg

And here is the result...
DSC06733.jpg

DSC06735.jpg

I am happy now with its new width...:):thumbsup
DSC06737.jpg

Pencil marked some details...
DSC06750.jpg

Made the 2 grooves on top and fixed some few problems here and there...
DSC06758.jpg

Now this is how it looks like...:love
DSC06760.jpg

DSC06761.jpg

DSC06764.jpg

Ready for some more detailings...

Next will be adding the mohawk and cheek/teeth details...

Thanks for watching everyone... cheers!

Re: Ironman3 MK8 turned IRON PATRIOT WIP (aiming 99% movie accuracy)

Extraordinary work! Considering the base you started with, your skill more than makes up for it.

Re: Ironman3 MK8 turned IRON PATRIOT WIP (aiming 99% movie accuracy)

Holy, that is awesome!!!!! I don't think I could ever summon the courage to cut anything I've built in half.........

Re: Ironman3 MK8 turned IRON PATRIOT WIP (aiming 99% movie accuracy)

Lovely work man! Love seeing your build threads. Just wanted to subscribe as well as I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out once you're happy with it.
