Iron Man 3: Mk XXXV Red Snapper Helmet

Hey guys, I'm going to attempt to model the Red Snapper helmet from Iron Man 3. I have no idea what I'll come up with, but I'd like to give it a shot. ;)



I started with the low poly game model from the mobile app. Big thanks to Balmung for posting the original game models. As I'm still pretty fresh to modeling, having a base to start off with makes all the difference.

And, here it is. The paper unfold is done!!! Thanks so much to Bandiet! I'll update this when the foam unfold is ready. Enjoy!:)

This is what I've go so far, with only about 6 hours of work into it. Still miles to go, obviously, but so far I'm happy.

Thanks man, although I gotta be honest, most of the work was already done by Zabana as far as the Mk V lid goes. That's one thing that's pretty cool about this model, I can actually call it my own.

I tried to find,back of the head shots but came up empty. But i'm glad that these will do. If i find more you'll be the second to know...GM

Looking good there bud... been meaning to ask, are you only using blender or do you incorporate other 3D software as well?

Thanks man! Yeah, just using Blender. The screenshots are taken in Netfabb, though.

Well, added the ears. First thing I've ever modeled from scratch (the ear)! I also have the inner border for the main helmet done. Still need to add border to the faceplate, and tons of tweaking on the main helmet. But it shouldn't be too long until the model is ready for pepakura building!!!

Here's a little more progress. Adding details and such. I do believe this will be ready for unfold within the next day or two, I just wanna make sure everything is tweaked just right. :thumbsup

How do you rip apart the game models? I sort of know the basics of Blender, and I have the models but this is what it looks like.

I can't edit or manipulate it. Also, if I just click on the "Red Snapper.obj" file to open it, it doesn't work, so I opened Blender, and, file, import obj.

Holy crap, that a loaded question! :lol

To begin, I separated the individual meshes (well the helmet at least) in MeshMixer, then exported the particular mesh that I wanted to Blender.

Honestly, there is too much there for me to answer in one post. Your best bet is to check out the tutorials on youtube, they start in an order, beginning with the basics. They did me a world of good!







Anyhow, the model is ready. Was hoping to have more volunteers for unfolding, particularly for paper...........

Just so you know with the unfold it will turn out blocky like the model is. If you want more contours you'll have to modify it on your end because I have very little experience with modeling.
