Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack on Cassette

Don't know if anyone else here knows this but the GotG soundtrack is being released on cassette for "Black Friday Record Store Day" I'm assuming it'll look just like the movie version. You can go to recordstoreday.com for your local participants.

If you know already then good on ya.

Yeah, it's Black Friday. Even at the independent record stores, that means long lines. My store has "lines down the block" as early as 8AM on these kinds of days according to the owner.

So I'm gonna get myself up at about 4AM, pick up my buddy at 5AM, and wait in line at about 6AM for an 11AM opening...lol. And hopefully we walk out of there with two copies.

I'm debating whether or not I want to attempt it in my Star-Lord costume. Maybe I'll just bring the mask and Walkman.

Good luck to you. Most of the guys who shop at my shop are older so there might be less interest in this one.
Sad to say but I'm hoping to score the Frozen picture disc for my little one.
The GotG cassette would be a bonus.

Guardians wasn't a big hit in my town, people didn't even know who I was at the OCT comic convention here. I'm thinking there won't be a lot of people here wise to the cassette.

And if all else fails, I'll just spend the money on some movie accurate TDK blank cassettes and make a better version of my costume cassette.

Correct, not the tape itself. But the labels, now that's another story.

The actual corporate stuff on the tape label looks to be confined to a very very small text hidden in one of the red bars.

The case insert has a Marvel logo, I think.

It would be pretty easy for someone to scan them and remove the offending items to make the most accurate prop labels and tape case insert.

It looks like there are two different versions. Here's the ones I've seen popping up in Europe on ebay. Pretty lame attemp:

If you're in the US, the label looks a little better, but the size is too small even though the writing appears to be scaled correctly. Tape is all wrong, of course:

You're better off making your own and recording the music yourself (or finding someone who can), IMO. There are great high res pics of the movie tape on line. As a novelty, if you can avoid the ebay premium, it might be worth picking up. Worthless as an accurate prop though.

Limited release and only to local independent music stores.

I was first in line and my buddy was second. We got them for $10.95+tax USD.

I like it despite the differences from the movie tape. My favorite part is the case insert with the hand-written song list. It doesn't really come through on the picture I linked to, but they printed it to look old and weathered.

And for the users making their own tapes, the cassette song order is different than the CD.

The cassette order is:
SIDE A
Hooked on a feeling
Go all the way
Spirit in the sky
Moonage daydream
Fooled around and fell in love
I want you back

SIDE B
I'm not in love
Come and get your love
Chery bomb
Escape (pina colada)
OOH child
Ain't no mountain high enough

Interesting, they just switched two tracks. You'd think I want you back would be a perfect side starter.

Yeah, that's how I setup my costume tape. Jackson-5 started out the second side. I even thought they did that on purpose with a cassette release in mind.

Oh well, next version of the costume tape will have the cassette order since I want to use the insert.

On another note, the tape sounds great.

EDIT:
Mystery solved. The amount of tape on the reels is just enough to allow the total music length on each side as rearranged. After 'I want you back' was over, the reel was at its absolute end. So about 22-23 minutes of tape to a side.

I think "movie order" is a cool way to go, but then you have to omit "Spirit in the Sky".

I don't live near any of the Record Stores, so I missed out on the cassette! Is there any way to still get them now? Will Marvel release it again when the DVD comes out? Or will I have to buy one on eBay for $50? :(

Another release when the movie is out on disc is unlikely.

For retail prices, great deal. Best 11 bucks I spend in a long time.
For ebay prices, I would just buy the stuff to make a movie accurate tape instead.

I got one too, looks pretty good. Looking at it made me bust out my old mix-tapes and start listening to them while decorating the house. So much fun.
I've got a call in to my shop if I can get a few more I'll spread the love.

Hope they have them.

This tape isn't a critical thing to have, but it's a very fun thing to own and I'm sure the others will appreciate the efforts.

My local record store had 3 in stock. I was able to purchase 2 of them. The great thing is that it also comes with the entire album for digital download. I was also asking if he would get more in stock, and he sounded optimistic that he could get more next week.
