Deadshot 2.0 Comic Style

Greetings all, this should be the start of a year long project. Just enjoyed Comic-Con this last weekend and i want to get a fresh start on next year's project.

Now i only got into this hobby a few years ago, the first costume i found myself drawn to and making was deadshot. I pieced together what i could, with what limited skills i had at the time and this is what I came up with



It was a good first attempt, and I'm quite happy with the eye piece. But let's see if we can do better now that i have some experience under my belt.



This time around I'd like to do a more comic oriented version, something akin to his suicide squad outfit. The first thing I would like to tackle is of course the helmet, I want to do his full head helmet this time around. My initial thought right now is to use a file I picked that is essentially a power ranger blank. Will give me a rounded blank helmet to work off of and customize. The biggest challange I foresee right now is visibility. I would like the aiming red eye to still light up, which I don't think will be a huge issue. But to not completely screw myself over on visibility I'd like to open the other eye slot and find a way to work it into the paint job. In essence creating a 2-way mirror effect that blends into the rest of the helmet.

Ideally I should have the "base" helmet done within a 2-3 weeks, which in the meantime will give me time to discuss it with you clever folks and find a good way to tackle this

You could make a rigid body for the costume, cut a view port, then cover the helmet (or at least the center section) with metallic mirrored film. Icon Props on Etsy sells some in a silver chrome color that looks like a pretty good match for the helmet, and is relatively affordable. Apparently the visibility is great.

That was along my line of thinking too, try to get as close to a chrome finish as i can. I've read a few forum posts that discuss a couple ways to accomplish that over a clear or tinted panel in a light spray. Done in a light enough coat, a decent chunk of visibility remains. I'll have to check out that etsy page

A little update as I was hit with some inspiration today, I think I found a good gun that I can modify and paint up to go with the style I'm planning. Chances are I'm going to pick-up a second hand Nerf Longshot from ebay, I've seen some pretty fantastic paint jobs done on these things and I believe they can suit my needs.


I greatly like this picture too, it gives a much clearer definition for how his helmet is laid out in the suicide squad. Should give me enough info to make a decent replication. Once I have my base pepped out and hardened I'll start formulating ideas of how to tackle adding on such features. I'm rubbish with clay and modeling so I'll have to find a good way to likely add some of these features mid bondo or post resin phase. First thought that comes to mind is Sintra, but once again I'm up for critiques or ideas

Sorry for the downtime, needless to say it's been a hectic month. Work definitely keeps me busy this time of year. Thought I'd throw up some progress pictures I've made and a few things I've acquired.

The helmet shell is looking good so far, i got it pepped and the first two layers of resin on. Sadly weather threw me for a loop before i could start fiberglass and bondo. I should be getting things rolling on that front again soon.



The gun has been gutted out and disassembled. I'll be doing some sanding soon to work off the logos and telltale signs that it's a Nerf. Then it's a matter of painting it up and working some electronics into it for some "flash"
Not yet sure if i want too keep the large buttstock from the original or keep it off for a sleeker look.

Hey, love this thread so far and I'm looking to do Deadshot as well...I was wondering what pep file you used for the base head shell, I've been trying to find a good one like the you used...keep up the updated if you can plz

The pep file was a very basic one, essentially a blank power ranger form. Do a google for pepakura base helmet and it should pop up, I can't recall the creator at the moment.

The helmet has had the back detatched for easy entry and I purchased the magnets I would need, I just because frustrated with setting them up and got side tracked taking on another project. This is one I will definitely be coming back to, hopefully sooner than later. I have everything I need to move on to the next step, just need to find the time and motivation.

Any recommendations for adhesive for my magnets? I've got a small set of Neodymium magnets that have been proving too strong for the adhesive, getting pulled off. My first thought was e-6000, but it just doesn't seem to be doing the job (or I don't let it cure long enough). I've also got some JB weld, but I was hoping to avoid that knowing how messy it can be, especially for a task as small and specific as this.

Lol...glad that I was able to help you get back on track a little...and thanks for the suggestion, I kinda figured it was a power ranger style helmet seeing how I came across the same style from a youtuber (Dali Lomo - DaliDIY) who used a foam pep file and made it from cardboard...still cant wait to see how it turns out

Nice to see someone tackle a DC characters that is not Batman, Superman, Flash or Green Lantern

They're a little less impressive up close. I picked up some cheap sport wrist guards and some dollar store "Nerf" guns. A little surgery and paint later and i had those guys. Quick and easy, not to bad looking. I maybe spent $10 on it.

Thanks, I'm definitely intending to have another crack at making them. Although I'll be a wee bit more crafty this time around.

I'll be sure to update as soon as i get some progress in, just may be a little bit. I'm currently bouncing between three projects.
