First time in five years I missed it. How was it? Did they fix the badge line issue? Was there an increase in costumes? Did they keep the rif-raf out? Did the college football crowd behave?

The badge issue was actually cleared up last year. Being part of staff for around 4 years, this year was the first year we actually had to stand in pre-reg and it was awesome! It only took about 45-an hour right after they opened up registration. After that it apparently only took 5-10 minutes.
I'll say that a cap on attendance is definitely need. They sold out of badges on Saturday after the parade since so many were curious about what was going on inside the hotels. It was mainly alot of families and people who had NO earthly idea what to do once they got inside.
The football fans definitely behaved themselves. And I'll be honest, I barely saw any except for a few TN fans here and there, because of the bright orange.
Saturday was intensely insane after the parade. The amount of people was HORRIBLE. We had to go run and hide down a track room hall way for a few hours until everything calmed down and we could make it back up to our room in the Marriott.
The nights have the general rif raf, like every year. Some moron spilled a drink in the Marriott on Sunday night and a few more morons were standing around avoiding telling people, as they slipped, ON THE HARD TILE. Luckily my boyfriend and I were out of costume when WE slipped. I nearly broke my arm. Then some stupid idiot decided to point out, "Oh yeah, watch it, there's something spilled there."
That's when we decided to call it a night -_-.
I also watched a few asshats feel up a friend of mine. A girl tried feeling her up too. Both of these people were completely plastered and the dude tried grabby my ass, as well as another friend's. The girl went over to my friend she felt up and ran her hand down the front of her chest. My friend just stood there, like "WTF?!!"
I'm tired of these people that keep coming into conventions thinking it's ok to come up and touch people. Or ask for something awkward or rude for you to do so they can take a picture of it. A few years ago I was Sally Jupiter and two girls came up to me asking if they could take a picture of them biting and snapping my garter. Really?? Sorry, ain't into that. Back the hell off.
Oh hey, we met at the costume contest! I was the colorful zombie who was there with Loki.
I had a lot of fun at the con--my biggest regret is not doing as many group meetups/photoshoots as I'd have liked. I think doing the parade may have been a mistake, for Loki at least--he started overheating and was a bit miserable the rest of the day; the crowding certainly didn't help.
Here's one of my favorite pics of us from the weekend--not a great photo or anything, and the characters have nothing to do with each other, it's just fun :-)

Seriously amazing costumes and I was thrilled to get complimented by her on my own.
Agreed. The crowds this year where out of control and the bagde issue still needs some work. We watched 3 drunk people get into the Marriot in front of us. They passed up on the street making dumb ass comments about peoples costumes then cut ahead in line. While I don't know what was said that got them in, they did not have badges or keys and still got it. I said something to the "security" by she just looke dat me blankly and waved me through. It was almost not worth it on Saterday, the croweds where too much.
As for the spilt drink issue, yeah, it gets bad. My group was in a area where two drinks where spilt aka left on the floor and knocked over, we told the "security" and bar people at the sail bar ( dose it have a name, is it part of pulse?) and they did nothing, we tried warning people for about 5 min and we kept getting pushed back by the crowd and no one wanted to lision. I'm sorry that you fell and glad your not hurt. I don't think it was the spot we where at, but if it was please know that we tried.
I fully agree that they need to cap the number of people on one day passes. I realize that they make more money that way and some poeple can not make the full event, but at least make them online purchase only or something with a cut off the week before.
This year was bad and we already had rummblings within our group of finding another con if next years is as bad.![]()
Part of me regrets dipping out of the parade, if only because Flickr is totally flooded with photos from it. Also, whoever schedules 11am photoshoots is nuts, there were 2 of them I wanted to attend and couldn't make on time because it was so early. Some folks have to get up and nurse a hangover a little!![]()
had a great time again this year nice to meet some , and of course seeing the batmobile building matt munson and lovely lady (her costume was top costume for the weekend imho ) and she wore it well
Heya Skaneyes, thanks for posting that pic! That's a great one! You going to be there next year??
I somehow avoided much of the Saturday night madness, but certainly had my fair share. I think my trick of really just focusing on hanging out with friends and sticking with the good ones paid off. I actually did very little floor walking, but spent tons of time hanging out in the Pulse Loft and room parties. In the loft, you're definitely out of the main stream of action, though it can still get nutty. Room parties of course allows you complete control over who is there, which means ZERO riff raff.
I really want to do a run down of all the great people I met, hung out with, or both, but I just know I'd forget a billion of them. I do want to say a huge thank you to all of the folks from the RPF who came up to say hello! That is always a genuine thrill for me, as it means my work is being seen and appreciated![]()
This was a return year after a 3 year hiatus. In years past, including this one, I chose on-site over pre-reg because my time was worth more than the price difference. After seeing how smoothly and non-existant the pre=reg line was on Thursday at 4pm, I might re-consider going back to pre-reg and saving the money.
BTW, Matt, it was nice to meet you. Getting out of Cow-town sounds like one of the best decisions you could have ever made.
We walked past two of these badge checkers saturday. There was a huge line of people shuffling past them into the Marriott, and they weren't looking at anyone's badges or keys, they were talking to each other instead, and not paying a lick of attention to who was walking past.
I've never thought the crowds were completely terrible in past years when other people have complained, but this year was really, really overcrowded, and I saw a ton of non-Dragoncon people there.
Despite all that, we did have a great year. I haven't finished uploading all of our pics, but I'm adding them here:
Dragoncon 2012 - a set on Flickr
The BSG photoshoot was at 10am, which I personally didn't mind (I have a bad habit of waking up too early!), but we had a lot of latecomers. However, it's good we had it then, because James Callis (Gaius Baltar) just happened to step outside for a smoke and saw us, and then he joined us for a few photos! Which is perfect, because we didn't have a Baltar for the shoot.
Here's a crappy Instragram photo I took:
Here's an entire group shot that someone else took.
I didn't get a lot of photos this year, and the ones I did get are 95% Battlestar. They're here, if you want to check them out.
And just because, here's a shot of me and the boyfriend, whose blues I made:
This was only my second D*C, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, as far as the con itself goes. Both this year and last year the pre-reg line went super quick, but I went in the late afternoon/early evening on Thursday. Didn't have any problems with a**holes, fortunately, but I was wearing the flightsuit most of the weekend so I wasn't exactly in a sexy costume that would attract much negative attention. The crowds were definitely a bit ridiculous at times, though. That's probably my biggest complaint.

I think I saw you at one of the parties. Were you the Starbuck that was triple-fisting two drinks and a cigar?
Dragon was immensely AMAZING! It was awesome running into people from this forum and showing off each others work!
Here I am, lemme know if you saw me... even better, let me know if you have any pictures of me!

As A Dragoncon virgin it has really been such a great adventure for me, I met alot of people especially members here!! The badges were actually really fast to get which Ive heard in past Dcons were a nightmare. In terms of crowds I just didn't enjoy the constant bashing on my costume and random peeps that either were sneaking in to party or just gawk. I will be definitely back for another one
If anyone has pics of me I would greatly appreciate them, Im in the process of editing mine of other awesome costumes and posting them to my flickr.
Thanks to all for making it such an awesome experience!
Ooh, great pictures! I know we met (as I was the girl in a mk 6) and I may have photos, though I'm having trouble finding them at the moment.
My first DragonCon was a blast. I know I missed doing a lot of stuff I would have liked to do, but that's ok--the stuff I did do was awesome. So many wonderful costumes, so much to see! I know I didn't see half of what I could have seen if I wasn't in the Iron Man suit (just because of people taking pictures and stuff--my faceplate stayed up, so I could see just fine), but I had SO much fun, and the few RPF members that I met were awesome!
What an amazing time... good catching up with people, yet so many we missed. Here are a couple of pics
Wbrought out Riker and Troi
Irought Magnum and Abby the Thor Bunny
Master Chief and Jane 117
Batman and Ivy
Satele and Jedi Knight
And I did a scruffy Han to Abby's SW:TOR Guild Dancer

My wife and I had a great time too! We hoped to spot some of the forum folks, but the only RPF member I encountered was iycis in a great costume.
Here I am in this year's costume and my wife as Professor McGonogall. She's wearing one of Juno's brooches.
Professor Snape and a friend of mine.
