I haven't been able to make it the last few years, am looking forward to being able to this year!BUT... if it's the same weekend as Wondercon, I won't be able to make it. Will be staffing at the con.

I should be able to come and hopefully my gandalf staff should be there too!
Catering? Porta potties? yikes man, sounds like a lot of work. Personally, I'd rather just pay the 20 bucks at D&B and risk getting tweaked on the buffet.
Buffed situation could easily be resolved by simply requiring that ONLY paid attendees get to eat. Keep yer mongrel kids on a leash this time, fyfe!
Maybe eat before you go and then bring a little something to snack on (in a small cooler) and not depend on catering or the restaurant to supply the food at all (just a thought).
Just finished reading thru this thread and only my opinion but:
Bad idea......these events including Wondercon will only take away people from attending ours. Its also in my opinion to have the party at least a few weeks away from these events so theres no "burn out" prop party-wise.
I could ask Joe and his crew if they are interested in coming but it didn't seem well received by some last year but its an option. I'd also like to see Alec from Propworx show up.
Same opinion up above.
Brad.....already know of some places with plenty of parking...plenty of room for the movie cars, bathrooms, well lite room, stage, video feed and screen for movies and a kitchen for food. I'll talk to you about it.
I've also talked to some attendees of Monsterpalooza last year who showed interest in attending...we'll see once I contact them...another reason not to have the party close to these events.
Updated 1st post with possible location.
Its a good location Brad but not sure of the price. I could also see what it would cost to have a hotdog or food vendor set up there like we have at our clock shows.
I think my only concern with the shriner's hall is the Honda Center event parking. During special events or sport games, nearby parking lots near the El Bekal Shrine (shriners hall) are used for special event parking.
Meaning heavy traffic and possible paying for parking if the lot fills up.....
I have a suggestion for a place.
here: It’s Showtime! | Kit Collectors Exposition
The UFCW Auditorium
8550 Stanton Ave., Buena Park, CA, 90062
Large Venue, Has restrooms, has a kitchen, has a large parking lot, located by Knotts in Buena Park.
I wouldnt trust that area with the Movie Cars and movie props. The UFCW is located nearby two pretty bad motels (drugs, gangs, prostitution)....Plus, you had some of the hoodlums passing through the street heading towards Knotts. The chances of a movie vehicle getting tagged is high...Also, the auditorium is on a main road with alot of traffic. Random unidentify people dropping by is high.
I would prefer Shriners over the UFCW because Shriners is located on a small road hidden away in anaheim. It is located near some car dealerships.
Does any-one know a place in the Irvine area?
You can put me down for 2.
Also, i'm not sure if Dennis is a Shiner or not. I'd assume a Mason could get better pricing than a non-mason. If he is not, let me know and I'll see if I can get a better price. Also, My lodge is pretty big on sticking to the 4 hours rental blocks unless there is a masonic sponsor. I certainly dont mind putting my name down as a sponsor, if needed.
We also have full kitchens available in almost every lodge, so that may help with pot lucking, or maybe we can get a couple of us to to show up early and cook.
Still interested for sure. A hall like that could be good.
Also- you can get Chevy's/ Panda Express other restaurants now do catering. I know Chevy's is pretty reasonable and sometimes they'll deliver. OR a grocery store. Just a thought![]()
Can I vote for Chick-fil-a?
Before we even start talking about food options, I need to get an idea of the cost of the space rental.
If the cost is anymore than $400 then I will have to look for other options.
We most likely have to change the day to a Sunday due to cost and availability.
Most places are booked on Saturday or the cost over double.
I think Marh 11th will be the day.
What about having an In and Out truck for food?
Warehouse is out, it just rented today on a long term lease..
Updated info in 1st post ****UPDATE AREA*****
just a thought:
Maybe we should keep the price at $20, no potluck, and ordering food through a caterer
Reasons why keeping it at 20:
1) $10-15 can go to the rental of the Hall and $5-10 can go to catering
2) Potluck will be a hassle: who will bring what, food not being even in quantity or quality (you know people will complain.....it is inevitable) ......
3) Since the setup is around 9am and the party starts at 10am, food will be cold by lunch time. People show up later in the day, food may not be available. Food can be gone by noon.
4) Catering is a perfect way to set-up a time when lunch begins. 12:00 sharp. Be there or miss out on eating.
5) We are already bringing car loads of props. Bringing Food is one less thing to worry about.
6) Catering=safe and clean food.
I agree with evil 100%
It's 100 miles each way for us, no way are we hauling food that far.
So are you all still looking for a place?
I may have a beat on a place here in Dana Point. It's a "community house", which is like a more private version of the community center, has some dedicated parking for the proppy cars, a kitchen...
I can head over tomorrow and take pictures if you all want...
Dana Point is a nice place. Take pics!
