Sep 5, 2012 - My Very First Build - GhostBusters Proton Pack #1

I completed the pack last month with a ton of help from GBfans.com. This is my first ever build for any costume. Everything else I've ever done has been commissioned. I wanted to challenge myself and try to assemble my own costume this year. I'm very happy how it turned out.

Still waiting on elbow pads to complete the entire costume.

(This is also my first post here, so please let me know if my images should be posted a different way - I notice a lot of other members have thumbnails.)

    Thanks for looking!

Excellent work man. My neighbor sells gun kits and pack shells. I wonder if any of your parts are his. He runs Multimedia Mayhem and the Ontario Ghostbusters.

Your neighbor is Collin? I have a lot of his parts. I have his gun kit, except where I replaced resin parts with aluminum, and a lot of the greeblies are from his shop as well. My pack is mostly MMM, DL4567, Nick-a-tron, and JoeLuna. My uniform was assembled from the parts off off the GBfans store.

Nice! Fantastic work, and very impressive, considering it's your first build!

I am curious and I hope you do not mind me asking as I wanted to do a GB Costume build with pack, do you have a ballpark figure of how much yours was and how much work you did yourself?

Very nice. I really dig the weathered effect. I got a bunch of extra elbow pads from ajquicks last run if you want a pair. Hit me up here or on gbfans, same username both places.(they are out of stock on gbfans until 10/1)

Chevy: I've built one and I'm in the middle of building my second pack. The first one was probably $800ish. I used an Alkaline shell, MMM wand, R2DEVO rev5 lights, replicaprops dual sound, Crix acrylic, and mikenelson resin parts. Second pack is looking to be a about the same since I already have a bunch of stuff, but went more expensive on the parts. It should end up being a wash money wise. The new one is a DL shell, TC rev3 wand, MMM resin kit, and dual Crix sound/acrylics, R2DEVO rev7 lights, and various parts from GBfans/MMM.(both use real legis/clippards)

Yup, Colin is my neighbor. He's the one that introduced me to this world when I moved into the neighborhood 3 years ago.

Everything in the pictures ran about $1,600. That includes the pack, uniform, Matty Ghost trap, Matty PKE, MT500 radio (with GB sounds), leather holsters, and boots.

It can be done for cheaper - biggest mistakes along the way was buying crap parts off of eBay. Make GBfans your primary source for parts and be patient - everything you need will become available eventually.

Everything purchased was pretty much kit-like, and the work is pretty much drilling holes and assemble according to instructions. The pack is pretty forgiving, as the packs from the movie are pretty rough and inconsistent themselves. It is a fun and rewarding project.

Thanks for the offer, but I have already paid for a pre-ordered pair from AJ's next run (due to ship October 1).

This really was my first build. I've done other costumes like Jedi, pirates, Indiana Jones, etc. Nothing that required cutting, drilling, painting, or anything like that.

The pack weighs around 28lbs. A lot of the resin pieces are not hollow.

Fantastic work! I am about to start my first pack build too, and I'm just starting to get parts gathered. My shell is DL4567, hope I get it put together as nice as you did. Great work man!

Great suit. I am new to this forum, but I am at Gbfans a lot as well as the 501, as I am shadow trooper. Great to see a nice pack and fellow Ghost Buster!

Thanks everyone! I wish I had more opportunities to wear this. Free Comic Book day and Halloween are the only two times I ever bring it out. I wouldn't wear this to a con since it is so heavy and uncomfortable. Oh well. It looks fantastic in my collection.
