    Jul 31, 2012 - Retouch your cast #1

    Hi there!

I'm back with another question for you guys!
I currently made a cast out of my boyfriends face, with all-ginate and plaster.

Now I had some air bubbles in the All-ginate which are still vissible on the plaster (check picture)

Do you guys have any tips or tricks to retouch it? Or stuff you guys use?

Also, there's still a bit of plaster and allginate that's stuck (beneath the nose) is there a possible way to take it of nicely?

    Thank in advance,
    Jill

I carve the bubbles off with a sharp knife. It's easier to do when the plaster is still curing but I think it is too late for that. Use a sharp knife and take off little bits at a time. Carefule around the details of the nose. If this is for a sculpting base then fine detail isn't necessary as masks cover facila features. If it is for a life cast, I hope you know how to sculpt. Good luck.

Thank you, it will serve as a sculpting base so that's why details wont be that important, but it still is great to have a resembling look offcourse.

I also use a dremel with a grinding bit- be sure to wear safety goggles/air mask.

Done this many times, very easy to do with carving tools like spatula tips, just carve away at the plaster, it carves off very easy, just take your time.

I have a dremel and a grinder but I'm a bit scared that it will carve to deep...

You don't want. To use a Dremmel, it's way too aggressive, just scrape away at it and carve as you would wood. Almost the same techniques as you would use for wood carving apply to plaster.
