    Jun 15, 2012 - Painting a urethane mask #1

    Hi,

I've recently ordered a mask made from urethane. I'm going to be wanting to paint it, yet I have no idea how as I have never worked on anything like this before. Does anyone have suggestions or advice on paints that I should use or definitely should not use? Thanks for any help.

First start off with a plastic primer paint (I used Krylon)
You don't need to sand or anything just make sure its clean and it will bond to the plastic. Then with the same brand, you can use the normal paint of even acrylics. If you need reference you can click on the link to my build and see the pics of me using these.

    Hope this helps

I'd take a look at the BJB series of SC-92 paints/primer. They make a primer which goes on first, then mix their paints/binder, and paint on. I've had great success with it. It really binds, yet stays flexible.

you may just want to have to seller paint the mold in the color you want...this method insures an oustanding bond. Another method is to use the same rubber diluted with mineral spirits dyed to the color you want and sprayed also an oustanding bond that will not likely peel. I repair costumes all the time where guys try to paint urethane...paint will not stick to cured urethane it will eventually fail. Speishecker makes a flexiable primer that when encapsulatle the item will let a vynl paint from Dupont for examble stay in place. But thats just my opinion

I've messaged a bunch of people on this subject and I've been told by two people who have this mask that you can used water based acrylic paints that you thin out with water to paint the mask, does that sound like it would work?
