Jul 16, 2012 - Painting on silicone eyes, recommended paints? #1

I'm working on one of Cyberman's great D. Maul busts as an upgrade to my pepsi maul statue and had decided to reuse a set of Darth Sidious eyes for it. The eyes were purchased from propcollector and since I sold my CKing bust, it seemed like it'd be best to reuse them.

One of the main differences of the eyes though is the red and veining that is seen around the white portions of the eyes and the pupil size. I can't do anything about the pupil size but is there a paint that I can use on silicone and have it stick then cleared on? I'm familiar with the silk string method to get the veining, but the red around the cornea/pupil itself in the surrounding white area is what I'd like to "upgrade" the most. I have read though, that it is difficult to get paint to stick onto silicone and that something like fuxefx would be the only way to go.

The top photo is an example of the maul eyes and the bottom is the Darth Sidious version I have (photos were taken from propcollector's sale page and are used as an example)

Brick in the Yard sells silicone pigments, which you can use to make your own silicone paints.

Be warned, You have to know what type of silicone they are made of, tin or platinum. You can only stick tin to tin and platinum to platinum.

Tin will stick to platinum, but platinum won't cure on tin.

That's good information, I'll see if I can find out from propcollector.
