Jun 5, 2012 - Oh no! another ninja turtle. WIP #1

This is my first attempt at any sculpture of any kind. I ve been wanting to make a mikey ninja turtle mask so i thought i would give it a go.
This is still a work in progress, I need to smooth the skin and add texture. Im still not sure about the mouth either it needs to be evened out. The eyes are just ping pong balls for now, im still looking for a uk source of large acrylic eyes, the ping pong balls are 38mm. I still need to add eyelids as well.
I plan on having a fibreglass inner skull, the bandana is separate peice from the head and i will make a fibreglass glasses type undershell for the bandana and cover it in the correct colour cloth.
Any help would be much appreciated, i have spent at least 30 hrs getting to this point, i work slow and the clay is quite hard

I am a big turtle fan and I"m happy to see another turtle on here. Sculpture is looking spot on. Is this oil base clay? Since this is your first sculpture, if I may share, a great quick way to smooth down your clay is by using 99% alcohol ( 91% works just fine) and a green scott pad (for dishes) from the grocery store. Apply a generous amount of alcohol on your sculpt, then rub with the scott pad. Hope this helps. I love your sculpture!

Thanks for the tip. Ive been using talcum powder as leaves it shiney and shows all the imprefections but im gonna try your way as it sounds like it will work better.

Awesome work. The eye set in the sculpt really make it come to life! Just out of curiosity, where do you get the eyes or did you make them yourself?

    Thanks,

The eyes are just ping pong balls. Im going to swap them out with pair of custom 38mm acrylic eyes with brown pupils etc.
