My Predator Wolf Head sculpt

IMO i would mold the mandibles seperate. You could be taking way to much of a chance of the mandibles locking up mold and this sculpt is way too dam good to take a gamble on a tragedy like that. Everything very well could come out just fine, but i've had this happen with other sculpts that i was sure would be ok to mold as one piece. Outstanding work! Looking forward to seeing the first pull. Keep us posted.

Simply amazing !!! Very great job !! In my opinion, it could be easier to mould mandibles separately cause molding a big head like this is not an easy thing... But as i'm not a specialist in molding, it could be great to have opinions of guys who do it more often...

You really have talented skills... Could be interested if you plan a run of these baby.
Thanks Man,appreciate it!

Thanks Jon,for your opion.Yeah,It's definatly the safer way to do them seperatly. But i reckon there 's a slim chance I might just get away with doing it with them still joined together based on the mandibles not being a complete right angle, allowing air to flow to the end of the mandible(If I was to use latex for casting).I'd also use a heat gun if needed.Plus it being in a silicone mould i imagine the mould can peel slowly and carefully away from the clay elinimating any lockins.

Couple guys I know have run into problems with trying to cast latex in silicone molds that included the full mandibles. Even with a heat gun, it can be tricky getting enough air in there for the latex to cure. Better off just using fishing line to slice them off clean if you are planning on making latex in the future. How large is the sculpt, though? Is it 1:1, now or did you make it bigger with the intent of making 1:1 latex pulls? If it is 1:1, now, why not do your silicone mold and then do a three-part fiberglass mold for silicone pulls. If it is currently bigger, you could do a stone mold after for latex? Ah, stupid options...

I've done one of these myslef mate and I kept the 2 mandibles seperate molds cut off as close to the mouth as possible, this might also give you the option after to sculpt another set of mandibles in a closed position something I was going to do but never molded the closed versions

if this was mine and I was making the mold in silicone I would honestly remove all the teeth and the mandibles
this will give a lot less stress of the silicone when de molding and prevent and issues hopefully

will also give you the option of making the teeth molds in a translucent resin for a more life like tooth

the bonus is then keeping the mold making simple you will have very little damage to your original sculpt especially as it's in nsp chavant so you can make yourself a plaster mold for a latex head for costuming after, unless your going the full hog and doing some mouth moving mechanisim I would not bother going for a silicne version as it will be too expensive and very heavy to wear, you'll also need to consider making a wearable core then too

hope that helps ;) looking forward to the finish

I'd say it's a 1.1 maybe a bit bigger but not as big as the original from ADI.So I guess it'll be good for latex pulls aswell.

Thanks, not sure as of yet to add the moving mechanism but had considered the translucent tooth look.Had some samples sent from bently chemicals. However to get the translucent tooth look do I buy a translucent resin and mix it with a colour or is there a resin available that already has that translucent off white look?
Thanks AJ

I'd go with the easy flow clear from mold life and add a little white and yellow pigment
another way would be to use proper dental acrylic but thats a lot more expensive
