Hey everyone!
This Frankenstein's Monster is going to be both a mask and a display head. I took it to WonderFest and worked on it all during the show and got some very nice responses. He has a ways to go before he's done, of course, but I thought I'd go ahead and show him off now. I welcome any and all comments, positive or negative.
For some reason the idea of a reanimated body fascinates me and what would actually happen to a dead body if it suddenly had life bestowed back into it. Basically it would be a complete wreck. To have previously dead muscles suddenly have electrical impulses course back through them, blood flow that had been dormant suddenly restored through arteries and veins that had dried and withered, joints that had rigor mortis suddenly forced to move again...it's just creepy. So that's what I'm trying to capture with this sculpture.
The idea for the right side of the face is that Frankenstein had to go in and do some unexpected surgery thus damaging nerves and muscles which leaves his face and lips permanently contracted into a horrific semi-grin. The left side of his face is more like a stroke victim, sagging and lethargic. His lips are swollen, cracked and dry. There's a stitch running from his brow all the way down the back of his head like an autopsy subject and the skin at the back is pulled and puckered. His left ear has been stitched on...but Dr. Frankenstein is not the best tailor in the world and the stitches are loosening causing the ear to separate and begin to fall off. When finished there will be rivulets of blood leaking from the unhealed sutures and running down his face and neck. There will also be a yellowish puss draining from one of his sickened eyes.
Hope you guys like him.
Dale.
