The build was tons of fun and eventually I have to get around to the Ear covers but all and all I'm pretty proud of the costume
Thanks for looking

Now that its getting closer to being all blocked out and needing smoothing any critiques or otherwise welcome. I will try to finish off the left side and back tomorrow night.
looks like a good sculpt so far! althought i would say that it needs to follow the curve of the head LESS, the cap america helmet is straight at the sides before it starts to curve more towards the top
Thanks for the input. Want to save the front pick in paint and slap some lines on there so i can see where you think i should block it out more?
Thanks!
Tyler
should have an update this weekend. After the previous input I agreed it was a bit stylized and to formed to my head. So It should have more of a helmet quality now.
Update reworked to capture the helmet look better
Updates on rework just need to finish up the back and work on some smoothing.
Thanks
Seems like im posting to myself but i purchased the rebound 25 and smoothon 305 for the helmet so I'll update when I have everything and make a pull
To smooth the helmet;
use a rake tool and make circular motions along the helmet. Once you have it all raked you can now smooth with sandpaper or thick threaded cloth. You will be amazed how smooth you can get the sculpt this way.
^ Yes.
Rake it out for evenness.
A torch or heat gun - use sparingly, you can undo all your work.
Turn a can of compressed air (duster) upside down and it'll freeze spots on the sculpt. Some of this stuff has a bitter additive. Freeze the spots, then -
use reticulated foam.
looks to me like it needs to go down the back of the skull more... closer to the neck I would bring the back of the ear down a little bit more and taper from there also i might make that trim on the back a little less drastic. Hope this helps. I like everything else and its kinda inspiring me to get to work!
rake out the clay to get it as smoothe as you can. I make my own rakes out of various bandsaw blades and then i make my smoothing rakes from wire. From there, i like to use a solution of 3/4 mineral spirits and 1/4 isopropynol (99 percent alcohol) to smooth it out. Use it sparingly as it can liquify the clay you're using. I like to use a soft cloth and polish it with the solution to get a mirror finish.
im looking forward to seeing this finished
It's looking great! I will be following this with much anticipation! The detail is looking pretty spot on!
Awesome Thanks for the tips guys!
So I got the helmet cast... Let me tell you the whole mold making process was quite the learning experience. Currently in the bondo phase but once i get it cleaned up and primed I'll post a pic!
