If you're looking to make multiple casts of the helmet, then yes, a silicone would be best. These materials are not cheap though so I would get comfortable with the process before casting a large object.

Take a look at the Smooth-On site for their video tutorials, they can walk you through the process. Here's a quick explanation of commonly used terms on their site that will be helpful:

BUCK: The sculpt, or the object you have that you want to make multiple copies of.
GLOVE MOLD: The part of your mold that's made out of a very stretchy, sometimes floppy, material that picks up details nicely. Many materials can be used here; you're probably looking for a silicone of some kind. Rebound 25 is used commonly, but don't take my word for it; experiment and look for the best for your purpose.
MOTHER MOLD: Many materials can be used as a mothermold. This is the HARD outer shell that your glove mold "fits" into in order to help maintain the shape of the cast.
REGISTRATION KEYS: These are how your glove mold fit into the mother mold and keep its shape.
CAST, or PULL: The final object you get once you remove your buck from the glove mold.

Chavant NSP was a good choice b/c it's a sulfur free clay, so it will work with platinum based silicones.
