Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
Greedo is a character that it seems like tons of Star Wars fans love yet there is very little out there in terms of options for building the costume. You're pretty much stuck with finding someone charging an arm and a leg for the old Don Post rubber hands. Not only will you pay through the nose for them, they're not at all accurate to the costume we saw on screen.
Recognizing the problem, a friend who's a Greedo costumer set off to start sculpting the hands himself about a year ago. Unfortunately, life got in the way and the project fell by the wayside. Since I've started sculpting projects in my free time I offered to take the project up and breathe new life into it. After about two hours of work I was able to re-attach some of the fingers which had fallen off and started attaching the suction cup finger tips that he made. Pics front and back: ![]() ![]() Immediately after taking the picture and stepping back to look at reference photos it was crystal clear that the fingers were not only too long but the suction cups were far too large and oddly shaped. I set to trimming and reshaping those parts and here's where it stands now. Clearly there's plenty to do still... it's still very rough, the wrist isn't nearly long enough but it's on it's way. ![]() Thoughts for areas of improvement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking! |

Re: Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
Bob, not that I'm at all familiar with sculpting hands, but would a more neutral pose be a more comfortable fit? If you need some alginate to do some hand castings, I have some extra.
They do look good tho, I'd just hate to see you finish them and get to the "crap why didn't I think of that?" moment I always have. |

Re: Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
That can be easily fixed but I wasn't sure. I wanted to make sure I had enough room between the fingers to build up the molding wall.

Re: Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
That makes sense, What are you casting them out of?

Re: Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
I spent the day working on headcasting with Reevz yesterday and we discussed it. He told me that most hand castings are done this way with the fingers spread so that you can make the mold walls down to the webbing of the hands. They'll be cast in latex just like the original hands. Greedo didn't really have any detail in his hands so these won't really either.

Re: Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
I lengthened the wrist, widened the thumb knuckle and did a tiny bit of detail on the palm and wrist.

I had no idea Reevz lived near us. I love that guys work!
I'm sure these will turn out great, just like all your other stuff. Can't wait to see them in person! I'm bound to eventually haha. |

Re: Greedo Hands - Sculpt in Progress
Been keeping an eye on this and was wondering if you were planning on making any of these to sell? I would love a set.
