Aug 2, 2012 - First time poster.. Custom Batman Cowl #1

I've been a lurker for years. I've never sculpted anything at all, except for when I first bought all this stuff several years ago in a failed attempt to build a MMPR helmet... so I decided that this year I wanted to be the dark knight for halloween (The past 4 years its been ghostbusters)

I'm on a budget, but I also didn't want to buy those crappy licensed cowls. So I decided to make my own.

It won't be screen accurate, but sort of a combination of Batman Begins, and bits and pieces of others.

I just started it tonight, and with about 4 hrs in, here's how it looks so far.. comments, advice welcome!

I think it looks like a good start.
Personally, I'd lower the eyebrows a bit and try to make it less bulky on the sides.

The sculpt is great-especially if YOU are happy with the design-remember, if you plan to cast it in latex, add some clay to the back of the neck so you can get it on-if using silicone, no worries.

Did a little bit of work to it last night, not much. Made the forehead taller and more curved. Changed the eyes up a bit and added a few small details.

I'm struggling with the ears, so any pointers would be great. I'd like some feedback on whether I should be trying to mimmick the begins mask, or just making sort of a "my own take" on batman in general? There's certain things I like about all the masks.

    Here's some new photos!

Here's a photoshopped mockup of what I think needs to change to get the look I'm wanting.

I think I want to go with a combination begins/89 cowl. note the changes to the neck.

Looking good, maybe a wee bit thick on the neck, but definitely gonna be easier to get into. And I think that doing your own take is a great idea.
