Hi everyone,
A few people asked to see my Hit Me sculpt WIP. I like to capture the actor before I add the character. I'd appreciate any comments you have regarding the likeness to Heath Ledger.
Thanks for your time,
Bob

Who now?
LOL! Looking spot on! I would say you could probably get a close likeness with one hand and blindfolded by now!
But I am liking this a LOT. Very different from what you guys and every other sculptor has already done. Very cool expression this time around. I could see this in the cop (parade) makeup where he is normal skin toned. He has a very sinister look in both of those scenes.
Basically nothing to add other than, LOOKING GREAT!![]()
I'd love to see the teeth, may I ask how you are going to make them?
Here's a pic with the teeth temporarily in. What do you think? I'll put them in permanently in the morning.

Thats looking good, better pics would help though, is it hollow?
wow, I can definitely see the likeness there, I am sure this will be first class
Thanks for the comments, everyone! @Frosty: Yes, it's hollow. I'll post better pics tomorrow.

I've got a feeling this is going to be stunning!
Glad to see the interest. This the look we are hoping to acheive. A sinister look, half smiled grin with some teeth exposed.

This photo was also used as reference tool. Unfortunately this photo would need to be tweaked a bit, to give it a bit more of a sinister grin, however it does give a good indication of how it should progress.

Looking good guys, Im no expert by any means at all on this but there are A couple of things i;d say though i think could be improved upon. Firstly i think possibly the shape of the nose might need a bit of work especially in the profiles a i think its too big for his face. I also think the ears may be a little too big also and could be a bit thinner in line with this pic:

I would also say that i think the face is a bit too narrow in comparison with Haywire;s pic above. the jaw line looks like it needs to be bulked up a bit.
Thanks for the info xtcofpain. Maybe someone with some photoshop skills can pair up the pics (reference and bust pics) for comparison if it helps. Unfortunately I only know how to use windows paint..lol.
Here, one done to show what i mean.

Heath ears are not as wide as those on the sculpt, they need to be a bit narrower and longer as well as the nose is not as bulbous towards the bottom. Hope this helps
Thats great, thanks. Any chance you can line up the front of the faces too? If not, np. Thanks again.
I resized, tilted, and superimposed the two images. As you can see you are very close.

Great job and the profile of the nose does seem pretty close, however perhaps underneath the jaw needs to be brought more forward? Any chance you can superimpose the front facial features? Thanks for taking time to help out!

Taking your suggestion I brought the jaw forward and wow it really looks close now. Appears the sculpted ear position may be a little low.
I attempted to superimpose front views but the photo of the sculpted bust was taken from an angle shallower than 90 degrees so it is optically elongated. Given an image of the sculpted head photographed face on at eye level alignment would be simple. These photos illustrate what I'm describing.

Thank you xtcofpain and cncenthusiast for your superimposed images. That really helps to see what is right on and what needs work. The ears will definitely get a makeover! Any comments on the positioning of the eyes and teeth, keeping the Hit Me pose in mind, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

looking at this picture that your using as your reference for the commission and comparing it with the latest picture posted above of the sculpt I'd say the jaw line and cheeks need to be moved down a bit,
they look to be taken at a very simular angle and Heaths Jaw appears much lower, almost a touch lower than the corners of his mouth
also looking at the picture ( and it might just be the angle of the photo ? ) the distance from the bottom of his eye to the corner of the mouth looks too long, I seems to me that the face he is pulling should shorten these distance and scrunch his face up a little more but it seems to be doing the oposite ?
I think that with the pose of him showing his upper teeth as much as he is in your reference there should definatly be a shorting in the length of his nose and cheeks should be higher ?
looking forward to seeing him progresshope my comments are ok
This is really progressing well!
If I could suggest a couple of things, you may want to look at the 3/4 view of Heath.
I actually flipped this image, but his face is quite symmetrical that the same is true of the other side.
The pics may not be exactly the same position, but you can see that the wing of the nose needs to angle up, the cheeks need to be fuller, mouth extended towards the back, chin lengthened, jaw angle changed and lowered, and cheek fat on the side of the mouth flattened out (that will be added later with the scar prostetic).
Hope that helps out a bit and I'm really looking forward to the progress.
First of all, I have an immense amount of respect for any artist who posts pics of their work and take suggestions to heart without taking offense. We are all here to see the very best come out of the community, so I have to commend Doody for even starting this thread. Johnny is also great about doing this, as are others. It is very refreshing to see.
I think the likeness is immediately apparent. My only suggestion would be to focus the smile on Heath's top teeth and no so much the bottom. In most pics, you will notice his grin was very top teeth heavy, and his bottom teeth are almost always obscured. You can see them in that sinister pic, but even still, they are only poking out slightly.
I'd also widen the smile a bit, perhaps to the ends of his eyes, as seen in the grin pic.
Honestly, this piece is already phenomenal. Congrats to Haywire and Doody. Any improvement from here on out is just gravy.
Wow, thanks for all this feedback! I really appreciate everyone's eye for detail and for taking the time to post.
