Crysis 2/3 nanosuit.. Help: smoothing the clay

First of all: I'm from Brazil and I follow the forum for a long time, but never created any topic.
I don't speak English very well, so I'm using the google translator to help me.
It's easy for me to read (many games), but hard to write.

I'm creating a costume Crysis 2/3 in clay. the clay I'm using is a professional plasticine (that's what the box says), but it is a bit soft and hard to smooth the small parts.

I am using papercraft as base to avoid the excessive use of clay and to help in symmetry.

This is my first work in sculpture, so if someone can give me any tips, video or tutorial I would be very happy because I love this series and wanted to make this fantasy the most perfect as possible

I researched a lot on google and youtube but not found good videos or tutorials.

This is what I have so far:

Welcome to the forum. Good start there. Are you using sculpting tools? A knife, some rakes etc will make life a lot easier if you don't have them. Isopropyl alcohol works well to help smooth some oil-based clay. Just keep at it and be patient. It is a slow process!

Balmumg, do you have those pep files and can you share them?

Just to echo what Nwerke said, I've used 91% Isopropyl Alcohol applied with a brush to great success. You can find it easy enough at your local drug/grocery store. Keep it up, you're build is looking fantastic! I don't think I've ever seen anyone that had the tenacity to pep a life size human!

Balmung i agree with the other guys i have been sculpting for a long time and alcohol is the best way to go if your using oil based clay... Looks great keep up the great work, can't wait to see finished product..

So wanted to make a nano suit, could never find a file. It looks beautiful, but it seems to missing some limbs XD

I will definitely try the alcohol. I had already bought some sculpting tools, they help a lot.

I certainly will finish the armor, it's my main project, but let's say I'm kinda slow on these things (damn you diablo 3).

unfortunately I lost the files of the armor (I formatted my pc because Windows 8 and did not have my backup files that were unfolded), I only have the armor separately.

To scale, it is only necessary to use your height in millimeters plus 35~50 mm in this file that I'm sending

This is great work really,I think I still have the pep files for this, the only thing is I don`t think they have been unfolded yet, I`m very new to all this so I don`t know how to unfold them. will check and post them.

Why are you using clay at all? Its a lot more work unless you plan on molding and casting copies. Why didn't you just use bondo?

I'm doing the texture. when it is ready I'll take a mold and reproduce the part in latex for a costume

I live in an apartment, so it's hard to get sanding ... and the armor is very organic, so it is difficult to reproduce in bondo

I don't know if it will help but I found a youtube clip that shows you how to make the honeycomb texture in photoshop, so U might be able to do a small print out and trace it to the clay as a base to work from

really looking foward to this- would love to build the nano suit!!

I agree that clay is the best choice here. If you were to use bondo, goodluck texturing it xD. Also, latex is another great choice - The outfit conceals the hell out of the human underneath + is very form fitting. Bondo would get annoying to wear very quickly
