creature from the black lagoon bust cast from original underwater mask!!!
if youve seen some of my other threads, youll already know that the creature from the black lagoon is one of my all time favorite movies ever, and after getting my mask and painting it, i just felt like it was lacking in detail and accuratness, and so im planning on selling it now that i found this,
![]() i got it off ebay, and the description wasnt really any help but ive seen a few other busts from the same molds floating around from differant makers that can all be traced to a cast of the original underwater mask used in the movie. mines probably a recast of a recast or whatever, and i have no clue where it came from but it has a lot of detail. i had just recently gotten another half bust that links back to the original mask off ebay for my girlfriend that was from studio 303 and was ceramic and weighed a ton, but this one is hollow and looks like a slush cast. im vary happy with how it came out, and i tried to paint it as accurate to the original as i could get but there are only a few pics of the suit in color other than a few from life magazine that were of a special suit painted up just for that shoot that had red lips and other weird colors. but from the ones i did have of the filming suit, it appeared to be a dark green with hilights of lighter green and gold accents. so here it is all finished! hope you guys enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: creature from the black lagoon bust cast from original underwater mask!!!
That looks like an original bust to me. By that, I mean the producer cast it from a legit screen used water scene head and had it produced in vinyl. Very hard to find these days. Good score!

Does anyone really know where the mold came from or when it was made? Ive never seen an original mask still intact, so I'm guessing the mold was taken a pretty long time ago? The half bust has "vito 2001 studio 303" on the back of it. I'll try to post some pics of it later today. |

hes pic of the studio 303 bust i repainted for my girlfriend:
![]() its only half of the head, and is made out of a heavy ceramic material for some reason, but its identical to the full bust that i have. did studio 303 have the original molds or did they just recast one? |

Re: creature from the black lagoon bust cast from original underwater mask!!!
thought id post this quote from ben chapman (the actor who played the above water creature) concerning the color of the suit from an interview that i based my color scheme mostley on: "the suit was a green with a kind of gold/copper edging around the scales to give it a sheen like a fish. the green was in different shades. it was primarily a mossy green with hilights as i have described"
