Ohh yeah....love the addition of the shoulders. Gives it a more finished look than just a head by it self.
Are you going to have any of the big back spines on it ? Two would look cool.
Awesome work bro.

Thanks for the great feedbackas far as the back detail I'll get the top spiney thingy (the one in the middle top) on & hopefully the two either side top ones.
Once I've got the body to a human shape I can start fitting those spiney things & he's shoulder pads etc.
Done a bit more shaping up this morning but I'm back to wet glue again, the PVA only drys where the air can get to it so I have to do a bit then wait before I can do a bit more, Its comming along though slowly.
He now looks as if he was acting as a shield for Indy at the begining of Raiders....Didn't get much done yesterday but heres the latest:
The glue's dry enough to carry on now & a little more shaping up is needed before I start adding Alien features.
This turned up this morning:
Silicone, Catalyst, Thickener, Spatular & a set of instructions. It'll be interesting to see how this jaw moulding comes out, the clay I've used is "Newplast" there should'nt be any reactions as its sulphur free but we'll see.
Not knowing to much about the whole art of sculpting, I have to ask. What are the sticks for ?
Holding it all together or there to add stuff to ?
The sticks are for pinning the foam together while the glue dries, They also make for good reinforsement in structurally weak areas.
They're "Barbecue Bamboo Skewers" bought from Wilkinsons for 50p, they're 10" long a little over an 1/8" in diameter & pointed on one end in packs of 100. I break them to length as I need them & re sharpen, I also shaped a couple of them for using as sculpting tools for the clay as I dont have any proper clay sculpting tools.
Edit: I also dont know alot about sculpting, I'm learning as I go, This is my first sculpting & moulding effort but I am determined to do a good job of this.

Had a play with one of the pic's I'd taken, I'm not very good with paint programs but I was looking to get an idea what he'd look like with he's lips, tendons & he's top cowling brought down to cover the convoluted pipe that runs arround the head. I'm really looking forward to reaching this stage
Its rough but It gives an idea to what I'm aiming for
insulation foam...genius!! this is killer mate, looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Awesome , cant wait to see this done as ive never seen an alien created this way. Great work
Many thanks for the great comments guy's
Cheer's, I figured it was probably not the most conventional way to do this but there is a method to my madness.
Firstly the cost, the materials I've used have been very cheap & I've been able to buy them in small quantities a bit at a time which helps to spread the cost.
Secondly my inexperience, I've not done this before & I wanted to pre-visualise it, I wanted to make sure the parts fitted together properly & it also means that I can perfect the shape (to my taste) while its easy to change it. Once I'm happy with everything I can seal it & add a layer of clay & the pipework for the final detail.
Another bonus is that its light weight, I was concerned that if I'd made it out of a solid lump of clay it might have distorted under its own weight. Its also easy to move about as I'm making this on the dinning room table

I would have never guessed that you have never done this before.
The sculpt so far is outstanding. Looking forward to the next update!![]()
Looks amazing! Some of those pics remind me of one of those anatomy models where you can take the internal organs out!![]()
Cheers guys, I've been busy the last few days attempting to mould he's jaw.
I made a major cock up, I didnt think to use a release agent on the silicone mating surfaces so it stuck together
I managed to salvage the mould but the original jaw didnt fair so well:
The mould & the sum of it parts:
I decided to test the mould with very watery plaster of paris & cast this:

After all the trouble I'm quite pleased with how its come out, very little flashing & I'll need to do a little bit of cleaning up on the teeth but otherwise I cant complain.
I've learned alot through these little mistakes, hopefully next time I'll know what I'm doing![]()
Just another pic with he's new (temporary) plaster jaw fitted:
I must admit I'm pleased with how he looks
I'll probably be slowing down a bit from now on as funds are getting thin so I'll update as & when.
Thanks for the interest so far folks![]()
This is a good project! I hope you manage to bring it to completion.
Don't know how I missed this! It looks fantastic.
You say you've not sculpted before? Looks like you've been doing it for years !!
I wish I'd seen this earlier as I could have diverted you away from the silcone moulding problem. Still the cast doesn't look too bad. A bit of clean up and some proper sealer and release agent you could re mould the jaw from the plaster one.
If you need any advice in the future or what materials to buy here in the UK then just ask. A friend of mine owns a prop making company and knows just about anything I've ever asked. He even tells me the best/cheapest companies to use without compromising on quality.
Keep up the good work.
Mark.
This is just amazing for a first sculpt. Are you going to add the Aliens extendable inner mouth part? My brother is a massive Aliens fan and is going to go nuts for this. If you do make some kits I would love one.
Hi sskunky.
Any chance you could PM me the name of your friends company? I could use a little help in that area too.
Wow!! Thanks for the great comments guy's![]()

I'll definately be in touch SSkunky, thats a very generouse offeryou do realise though I'll be mailing you alot
I should have a couple more updated pic's to post up soon hopefully, I ordered the big convoluted pipe that runs down the side of he's head (££££££) yesterday so it should be here in a day or two & wont take too long to fit. I've added a few other bits of tubing, I've reposisioned he's top fangs & added two more. I've also been adding the small convoluted pipe that sits just under the edge of he's couling & trying to make the foam couling fit nicely over it.
I'll be focusing my attention on getting the head to a moulding stage before I do any more to the neck & shoulders & I plan to make a full length tounge for him.
There is a little reference material I need: the pipes (1 either side ) that come from the rear of he's bottom jaw??
On one version they appear to come from the short fat pipe on the side of the middle of he's head, The version I want to do is where they seem to dissapear behind he's neck?? the problem is I cant find a good rear view of the back of he's neck where these pipes terminate, does anybody have a pic or a scale model they could take a pic of that I can use for reference??
Thanks![]()
