Jul 15, 2012 - ANH mask and helmet, from a Rubies delux #1

Hello my name is Paul, I'm a new member here at RPF and I'm finding it a bit hard to find the threads I have started and people reply and I don't get a reply notice threw my email so don't know that they have asked a question or commented..( Frustrating) but I will eventually get it. I like you all am a fan of the moving Picture experience and like most of you I am always making things, it started long ago.... now I do it to challenge myself and help friends with costumes and so on..if I can sell the odd thing that's great because oil based clay cost allot...

Anyhow, this is my attempt at recreating the original Darth Vader mask and helmet. I'm using a Rubies so called Supreme.. as a base to the sculpt but I don't think much of it will be left when I'm done. I'm using Newplast White or could be cream? so you can tell the difference from the black plastic but I'm finding the contrast a bit hard on the eyes.. should have used black...DOW!.

Please give me chance to refine what you are about to look at before you start telling me its rubbish

The truth is I was picked up by the scruff of the neck in Racchams Altrincham by the real suite back in 1979 or so... minus Dave Prowse I'm sad to say and it had such an impression on my tender mind now I spend most of my free time making mask of one kind or another... I know there are loads of Vader masks out there some better than others but I have to throw my hat in to the ring... or should that be mask?. any help on how to correctly navigate around RPF will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers Paul...

I forgot to mention, I removed the original eye lenses, cut the plastic of the grill so the slots go further down and removed the sill locking mount from the head. I filled the inside of the mask also to hold a wider position.
Then I trimmed the plastic helmet eye ridges and heated the plastic to flatten the front so I can sculpt the eye peek properly.
