    WTF? Just extended scenes?

No make-up shots, no Rick Baker?

I guess the drama has spilled over to the DVD.

The I don't know about the DVD, but Blu Ray has like a 20 minute special just on Rick Baker and the makeup.

Does the DVD also have the extended edition of the film?

Yeah the DVD has 2 versions of the film, and extended and deleted segments, But no behind the scenes.... Why has this film caught all this hell? I think it was a wonderfull remake, I guess cause it didn't have alot of Guns Gore and Explosions or a nut running around hacking everybody up it didn't sell...

I think studios are trying to phase out dvds by putting most of the exclusives on the blu-ray..
Lucky me, I can careless about behind the scenes of some movies

Yeah, I read that about this one when it came out, the Blu-ray version got all the extras.

a friend of mine who works for a Blu-Ray and DVD production company that produces a lot of the special behind the scenes stuff you normally get on extras told me that Avatar was a test run

they wanted to see how well a movie would sell without the behind the scenes stuff

as was predicted it didn't affect sales too much at all. And now a lot of movies you'll see coming out will have the extra features cut. They're essentially get rid of the "value add" items. Which means a disk is more profitable... but also less content

so, if you're not happy about the lack of special features, write the movie companies, and let them know you're not happy. It's the fact that no one said "boo" that you're going to see a lot of bare bones releases in the coming months

The lack of features is the exact reason I didn't buy Avatar on Blu-ray. That, and they'd already announced a later edition that would have them. Some movies just have to have those features.. I think Wolfman was one of those, too (I've got the BD).

Sherlock Holmes was pretty barebones as well. Not much extra content on the DVD and the Blu-Ray.

I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet, but I just buy the combos when they end-up being a better deal than just getting the DVD.

The majority of people I've spoken with on the matter have told me something to the effect of, "I never watch the extras; I just want to see the movie." Most people don't care what it takes to produce a film, they just want to be entertained. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the companies that produce dvds and Blu Ray eventually release only the movie (or television show) with no extras whatsoever. I buy dvds for the bonus features/extras as much as for the movie so, for me, if it actually happens it'll be a sad day.

Well it's nice to know they hacked the movie up for the theatrical release. One more reason I hate going to the theater.

Loved the directors cut and extended scenes.

What did you think about -

    Spoiler:
The vintage Universal logo at the beginning, and Max Von Sidow's scenes?

    DS

    Exactly!!

    Plus
    Spoiler:
the added theater scenes in the beginning.

Why they couldn't release this version as the theatrical release makes no sense whatsoever.

They've been doing this since way before the release of Avatar... Coraline and the Watchmen came out on DVD the same day, neither had bonus footage of any kind but their Blue Ray counterparts had hours and hours of extras and documentaries.. hell the Watchmen had this ridiculous thing where Zach Snyder would watch the movie with you... I thought I posted a rant about it here..

Personally I'm absolutely furious that the distributing companies would so blatantly strong-arm consumers into buying Blue Ray players... it's an outrage. I'm surprised more people aren't throwing stones through their windows.

To me it's one thing to not be able to put some special featurtes on there for legitimate technical reasons, but the distributing companies and studios are actively de-valuing DVD releases, striping away something that used to come with every DVD to justify the price and reserving the bonus footage for Blue Ray only.. they've been overloading the Blue Rays in fact.. it's really pretty sad.

I mean yeah, in time everyone will switch over to Blue Ray as they become more affordable.. they've already won. So do they really have to take away our DVD special features too? That just seems.. childish.

I try to keep a positive outlook on life, but it's these stupid little things that make it hard.

I don't have much and some of the little joys in my life is parking myself down to watch a movie I enjoy (rare these days) and to see how they made it, only to have some suits in their boardroom make stupid decisions like this so they can force us into spending more money.

I don't have the money to invest in their stupid technology that I really could care less about. How much clearer do I need to see the picture? Each time I go into our local Blockbuster, I check out the Blu-Ray set up and yes, it's a bit crisper, but not enough so to justify me spending a couple of grand and to re-purchase all the movies I already own on DVD....only to have a new and better format come out in a couple of more years.

Not to derail the topic, but this is not really true. You can buy a Blu-Ray player for under $200, and it is fully compatible with DVDs. Nobody is making you re-buy your movie collection. You could always get a Blu Ray player, and buy Blu Rays instead of DVDs when they come out, and still keep and watch your old movies.

It also depends on your setup. If you have a 1080p capable 40" TV or bigger, with a surround sound system, then the upgrade to Blu Ray is quite a big jump. Movies will look considerably better. But if you have a smaller TV, not capable of 1080p and no surround sound, then I say it's not worth it.
