On August 31, 2010, Darabont reported that The Walking Dead had been picked up for a second season, with production to begin in February 2011. On November 8, 2010, AMC confirmed that there would be a second season consisting of 13 episodes.[3] Darabont, who wrote and directed the pilot, spoke of his plans to introduce fan favorite Michonne early on in the second season's run. He would also like to include some of the "environmental elements" that take place during Volume 2 of Kirkman's book.[16]

I wondered if she'd be included. I'm glad she's not one of the characters that has been deleted or changed. Now, is T-dog supposed to be Tyreese?

I just started watching this last night, as AMC was rerunning the initial episodes before the new one. Got through 2 of them. I'm in.

Love it, love it, love it. I can't even say how much I'm really enjoying this show.

    Highlights for me included
    Spoiler:
Ed getting his ass BEAT (though Shane's ******-bag status just keeps getting reinforced for me as we go along) and the reunion of Rick, Lori, and Carl (beautifully portrayed and shot, in my opinion).

Oh, and I got 'Youthful Sidekick' in the survival test!

My only question is when did hacksaws stop being able to cut through steel? My guess is sometime in the production of Saw 1.

Even barring that, ladies and gents do I have to bust out my Moh's scale of hardness again? Why is it these guys can never make the connection between sand and sandpaper?

A dull blade would mixed with zombies squeezing through a door may make cutting off your hand like the more prudent solution.

I can't imagine I could ever do that, though. But who knows what one could do when there's no other option.

Well yeah but he was already up on the roof long enough to be all sunblistered and have the blood on his raw wrist dry and brown by the time we saw him begging and such. And the zombies never broke through. So he had all the time in the world.

And hell, even with a dull blade he could have still tossed some grit in there to keep cutting once he got a groove. That's the reason for cutting slurry am I right?

If he was even only able to cut through half of that half inch bolt that the cuffs were attached to then he should of been able to kick and yank on it until it broke. The thing was unsupported for a full foot in the middle. That's plenty of leverage.

It's just I've just cut galvanized gas pipe before with a hacksaw and that stuff is tough. The hacksaw in a mechanic's toolbox should obviously have a metal-cutting blade on it (and spare blades in the box for that matter)

I can't be the only kid that grew up where dad said "Use the regular saw for wood, and use the hacksaw for metal." All these shows that go "You can't use a hacksaw on metal, it'll dull the blade." just make me go "Huh?"

You know what would have been funny though? If the the camper guy had some spare cutting wheels in the toolbox and one had rolled out to Meryl, not the good kind, the kind that crumble when you look at them sideways. Then he would have to try to use that to cut free.

Great episode last night, I loved that ****** getting his a** kicked at the end. Pretty cool they've got the guy from Deuces Wild and Boondock Saints in there. I wonder if he's going to be a regular...

You know when they're killing "geeks" in melee attacks? Wouldn't infected zombie blood be flyin' everywhere? Get on their skin? I'm just saying, you'd think they be a little more careful with such close quarters killin'...

Except he hadn't snagged the saw yet. Last we saw, he was still trying to hook it with his belt.

They had to cut the chain to get in. My point about the beginning was he couldn't have been in a 2 minute rush ("They're going to break through any second!") since he had survived all the time before we see him (not to mention his wrist injuries showing quite a bit of time had passed) and that's backed up by the fact that the zombies never got through the door.

So while heartrendingly scary, he had all the time he needed and then some to do things the smart way. At least until he would die of exposure at any rate.

Now you could make a fair argument that he was too dim to try a smart way and took the only option he felt he had. I'm just saying that there was plenty of time to do what needed to be done without losing a hand.

Might depend on how fresh they are (they might congeal with age) but yeah. I'd also be sure to keep my "zombie" arrows separate from my "game" arrows if I were the brother.

Yeah, but when Rick and the other guys arrived the saw was in a different location and it had blood on it.

I know they've strayed a lot from the comic so far, but could it be that
    Spoiler:
the roof guy losing his hand is a homage to Rick losing his hand, so that Rick won't, later in the series? There was a lot of drama with the Rick hand loss, but I don't really care about roof guy.

Am I the only one that thought this last episode was a little slow? It just seemed like the pacing was off.

I'm with ya. Extremely well acted but it was a little slow and too many one-dimensional characters being introduced. if they don't develop them it's going to be Camp Cliche. In a 6-ep season that was a little bit of a snoozefest. Still a fun time. :-)

I didn't think so for episode 3, but episode 2 for me wasn't very interesting. The blood covering thing was pretty weak.

Loved that episode. I actually went from hating Lori to feeling sorry for her. Myabe she just got with Shane because she truly believed that her husband was dead. Loved how she confronted and dropped Shane like a bad habbit at the quary.

I wonder if Merle jumped to another roof, or whether we will run into zombie Merle at some point. It's clear that the roof zombies did'nt get him though.

I would not be surprised at all if Rick does in fact NOT loose his hand now. Kirkman has said that Rick loosing his hand in the comic was not his best idea.

I really wish there was more episodes coming this season.

T-Dog is the black guy. The guy on the roof's name is Merle Dixon.

Interesting thought, but I think he was delusional and going insane on that roof. Eigther way, I would be surprised if he made it very far. I would think he would die from blood loss, and if someone else hacked his hand off, it is likely infection will kill him.

Then again, on reflection...his hand did seem to be cleanly cut off, something I do not think the hack saw could have done. We don't see any marks on the cuffs. I would think even a crazy person would have tried to cut the cuffs, first. Maybe, someone else did come on the roof, saw the zombies and used an instrument like a machete to just lop off that arm and get him out of there, not knowing how long the chain was going to hold the zombies?

Lastly, there is that dude in arizona who cut his arm off with a swiss army knife or whatever because he got trapped by a boulder, so I guess limb/ appendage severing might be a viable survival tactic in certain situations.

I can only assume he was out of his mind to not make the extremely rational and reasonable action of just using the saw to cut through the bracket the bolt ran through. It wouldn't have stood up to the bolt as much, and would have been a lot less bloody to cut.
