They mentioned it during the talking dead, saying that this season she's decided to no longer be a victim. Adding that to her personality type, it could seem that she's really trying hard to prove a point. It wasn't smart and no one really seemed mad about it, even Hershel. I'm sure it'll add to the tension, another reason he'd want them to leave.
I guess that's equally as baffling... she shot someone, after being told repeatedly not to shoot.

She was told not to by both the deputy (now "leader") and the guy who took her gun away from her in the first place. The farmer whose land this is made it clear gun weren't welcomed. The three guys (two of which are former deputies) near Darryl who could've been in the line of fire (or both the rifle shot and walker blood). And none of the people really seemed to give much a rat's ass about this... the more I think about it, the more it's totally out of character for a large chunk of our characters.

    Spoiler:
In the comics, Carl offs Shane. In the tv show I don't think Carl will be the one killing Shane. I think it will be Dale. In the preview for next week it has Dale confronting Shane saying he knows what type of person Shane is. So I think when it is time for Shane to die Dale will be the one pulling the trigger.

I also agree that there is a good Daryl and Carol line up going on here.

My gripe with this episode was that Daryll was totally out cold for a minute there. He comes to and a walker is chewing on his shoe? His shoe? The zombie has his choice of where to start munching and he goes for a shoe???

Don't get me wrong here, Daryl is my favorite character in the show and I don't want him killed off but this just screamed of silliness.

Maybe, but it wasn't in the comics, it was a separate book. I still suspect Merle will be the Governor.
Nope, unless things change, Kirkman/Darabont have stated repeatedly that he will not be the Governor.

It was a much better episode for me, although some more parts that made no sense other than to eat time up. Why did Daryl need to get back to the top of the hill? Couldn't he just follow the stream and take an easier route. Seems like an advid outdoors Dude like him, could find an easier way.

What about getting infected? Surely those arrows that are killing walkers are not steralized.

I love the character though, and I was ready to scream when Andrea shot him after all he went through. I thought for sure that he was dead. I really hope they wipe her character out soon.

Can't wait for the inevitable Merle/T-Dog reunion.

That was something I kept thinking about too. Does he take the arrows back after he kills a walker with it? It looked like that was his last arrow

I guess you've never been lost in the woods before. If you go deep in the woods and there's no distinguishable landmarks, more than likely possible to get turned around. That's part of why Sofia has been missing: she's a little girl in a big set of woods (the moment she turned off the direction that Rick told her to go, she became lost. Darryl pointed out in one of the past episodes that they should start at the river because that was the only distinguishable landmark she was familiar with). If you don't pay attention, you can easily get lost. The same is true with hunting. Hunters follow a certain path so that they can be able to get back to where their house is or where they parked their vehicle. If he went any further up or down river, his placement would be thrown off, and he could potentially lose direction and get turned around, ending up with him being lost.

Not to mention, he has an arrow hole in him. For all he knew, he could have had internal injuries that can cause him to bleed out inside. Time would be a factor in that. Any injury like what Darryl has needs to be considered serious (even with the makeshift tourniquet/patch up) and getting lost in the woods with an injury like that could can cause major problems.

So, no, he couldn't go further up or down the stream because not only was he injured, but the fact that he was injured and could get drastically lost by doing so.

Part of me is thinking that the reason they are having Sopia go missing for so long is becuase the actress is going through a growth spurt and they aren't quite sure what to do. The actress already looked noticeably older in the first episode (so much so that it actually looked wierd for her to be carrying around that rag doll). Im guessing that is also the reason Carl is going to be in bed for most of the season. Last night im pretty sure I heard the beginnings of the actor's voice changing.

Why did Andrea shoot Darryl? There were several able bodied men there that have taken out quite a few of the walkers between them - they're armed and Rick has his gun, if the blunt instruments would happen to fail.
She wanted to prove herself. Also, it's entirely possible with the scope that she didn't have a good view of the area around the walker, and didn't see how close the other men were. Tunnel vision with a scope, essentially. Also, no one HAS given her any training with rifles either so she doesn't know how little it takes to alter the trajectory of a bullet long distance.

I understand the idea behind wanting to prove herself. I think it's a stupid idea for that character choosing to prove herself at that moment being that two people told her not to shoot, the owner of the property expressing a strong desire for no gunplay, three people of the group were in the immediate vicinity -and they were armed (having killed many walkers in the past) and her with a gun she's never used before.

It just doesn't make sense for this character to chose this particular moment to 'prove herself.' ...and of course the reaction to her shooting Darryl is equally as baffling.

    This is isn't character development.

    Actually this is contradictory.

They had a map of the area to base a proper search from. That and a river only flows one direction. The only reason he woudlnt have followed the river to a walk out point is it flows further away from the farm or it is all canyon (which makes no sense given the location) or a waterfall is in the path. Climbing back up was just a way for the character to get back into character for the sake of the story. Before you argue this, keep in mind I was a CDF fire fighter for a couple years and have been on many a search and rescue operation in rain, floods, snow, heat, fire and goat feed for a large group of goats that somehow made their own way to the basement of a semi burnt out home to escape a large forest fire. Talk about a major "WTF!" moment with all these devil eyes reflecting at you not knowing what your looking at...

In regards to the barn, its another thing that may work in a comic but not in a live setting. The smell alone much less the noise would tip anyone off within minutes. It also furthers the zombiepocalypse makes people into idiots theory in this universe. First thing you do is secure the area and do routine patrols on your surroundings and defenses. So far it doesnt seem they are paying attention to anything not facing directly in front of the house. His farm his rules hasnt meant anything to anyone so that argument is also invalid.

Since we seem to be going "there", where is the sick and twisted farm hand thats keeping some sex slave zombies? Thats got to be right up there with the first person who looked at a cow teet and thought "I got to get me some of that".

They are leaving loop holes, and there were a good deal of them in the comic. There's really no excuse as to why they're not checking behind the farm, we can only assume that they are.

As for the noise; the zombies have been in there a while, by the look of them. They probably settled down after any noise subsided. The barn is far enough away from the house to make noise not that big of a problem. Though there's a loop hole when Andrea shot Daryl, the shot probably would have stirred them up.

As for Hershel and his barn:
    Spoiler:
He doesn't believe in killing them, due to his religious beliefs. He is hoping for a cure, and that's where his back-woods thinking comes in. Despite the fact that they're rotting, he won't kill them.

There's also friends and family in the barn, that he can't bring himself to kill. There in-lies his weakness.

Maybe he's just agitated with the possibility of them discovering the barn (too late!) but Herschel went from gentle, helpful, kind, to ******-bag extraordinaire in no time flat.

If you think about it, you can't really blame him. First you have a 3 people run up to your farm, one needs medical attention. Then a few more show up. And more, one more that needs medical attention. Then the rest of them show up. They're eating his food, using his supplies, and his medicine stash as each one of them gets hurt.

    I'd be pissed too .

They did bring in their own, but I think Hershel had some too. At any doubt, they're still eating his food stash, which seems to be plentiful. Was that ham they were eating??!

Seemed to have enough surplus canned-ham to bait the bloated well-walker.

And this is just an observation and I hope it remains as such, but Herschel getting irritated by the group and not wanting to share his shelter or food is not very Christian of him.

I bring that up because his faith is a huge part of his character.

I know it's been mentioned before, but they're getting real lax on the zombie contact rule. In the first season everyone was super careful, wearing gloves and avoiding it like...well...a plague. But now you have characters gutting zombies, punching them, and making ear necklaces.

Lobotomy Zombie...It was shown at the CDC that the Cerebral Cortex is the active part of a Walkers Brain, the most primitive part. That shot in fact may not do permanent damage to a normal person, to a walker, it would have done nothing, they don't need or use their frontal lobes.

It's a Walkers Medulla Oblongata that makes them so mean Mama.

No, it's not. I'm pointing out that if a little girl can easily get lost, Darryl himself can end up getting lost too if he goes too far off trail (basic standard in making your way back to a location is to walk back the same path you walked to get out there).

They had a map of the area to base a proper search from.
And do you honestly think Darryl was carrying the only map that the whole group has access to with him? I didn't see him checking a map before attempting to climb the hill the first or second time.

That and a river only flows one direction. The only reason he woudlnt have followed the river to a walk out point is it flows further away from the farm or it is all canyon (which makes no sense given the location) or a waterfall is in the path.

I'm not arguing this. The last time I checked, we were having a calm discussion about this particular topic.

Besides, did you not consider the possibility that he was hoping that the horse was still at the spot at the top of the hill, which is why he was trying so hard to climb up it? With an arrow sticking through you, or even with an arrow hole in you, if the thought there was a possibility that the horse was still in the area of where you were thrown off and possibly be able to easily ride back to the farm, you'd try to climb for it. We find out it wasn't there after he makes it, but before that, there was the possibility of the horse still being there.

If I recall correctly, Hershel told Rick that he and his people were to stay away from the barn when Rick offered to have his group set up near it (as not to give the impression to them that they were allowed to stay at the farm permanently). In the comics, almost the same thing occurred, when Rick offered to set up his people inside of the barn so that they wouldn't be stuck in the R.V. in the front of the house. Since Rick is trying to get on Hershel's good side, I think he would have made sure that his group would stay away from the barn. And unless you're inside the barn (like Glen was), it's hard to smell something outside of a building from a few yards away, let alone hear anything (using an example from the show, Rick had to scream at the top of his lungs at Andrea for her to hear him from where he stood near Darryl. A small group of zombies moaning and weakling banging against a locked barn door wouldn't be able to be heard from where the house is).

The reason why Hershel's rules haven't been followed is because Rick hasn't forced his group to follow all of them (the only one he's forced so far is the no handling guns on the property, in the beginning, then he let it slide). If I had been Rick, especially since she came so close to killing Darryl and had been told NOT to shoot the rifle before heading out, I would have revoked Andrea's gun privileges. That means she wouldn't have ever touched another gun again unless it was really necessary (I wouldn't care how much she griped about it like she did when Dale wouldn't give her the gun). That would be the only way for her and the others to know that following the rules are important. You have to re-enforce the rules. So far, Rick has allowed things to slide and he hasn't re-enforced them despite giving his word that his group would follow them. This is pretty much setting up a good reason for Hershel turning away the group (where as in the comics, there wasn't much of a reason for Hershel to turn them away until the incident of trying to load in another zombie into the barn).

Since we seem to be going "there", where is the sick and twisted farm hand thats keeping some sex slave zombies? Thats got to be right up there with the first person who looked at a cow teet and thought "I got to get me some of that".
I haven't seen a character like that in the comic in the three volumes I've read thus far (I don't know about anything from Volume 4 on up, so if anyone knows if such a character turns up in the comics, please let me know so that I at least be sure for any kind of future discussions that involve such a topic). And since they're already pushing the boundary with the show as it is with the graphic zombie violence, they're not going to go that far for the show (seriously, if it were HBO or Showtime, they could probably get away with that. But this is AMC we're talking about).
