Tron Legacy: Flynn Lives

Has anyone been visiting the Flynn Lives website?

It's part of the viral marketing campaign for the upcoming Disney movie, Tron Legacy. Today they had tickets available for a Tron event that will take place on the 27th. The tickets for the LA event were gone in 2 minutes! Anyone going?

Also, with a little digging around and entering the right code, you can get access to the "Discussion Forum", that is seeded with fake topics about Kevin Flynn, Alan Bradley, Encom and other movie reality topics. The discussion forum is here:

I can not wait to see this movie in December!!!

I was following along with the reveal on Wednesday. Was at work, so I couldn't try to locate the 'package' downtown.

So very excited for this! (Hope the arg continues in be involved around Chicago! :thumbsup)

Thanks for posting the 'discussion group' link, confusion. It looks like it's not a real forum? A couple of interesting pics they've got up there though.

The discussion group is part of the ARG, so yeah, it's not real, but interesting. I'm in LA and totally missed out on the zero hour event, but I did manage to get a ticket for the event this Saturday! I wonder what it is? If it's anything like the fully built out Flynn's Arcade at last year's San Diego Comic Con, it'll be beyond cool.

Well, the "event" was yesterday it probably lasted 30 minutes. While it was cool to see the new 2 minute trailer, get a free Flynn Lives t-shirt and listen to a short Q&A with the directors, I was hoping for more.

Some interesting new factoids are:

The cyber world is different and on a completely different server than the original world. That means, no MCP or Yori.

CLU is not the same CLU from the original movie, he's a version Kevin Flynn created when he got to this cyber world. Just like in the original movie, programs resemble their users, so CLU looks like a younger version of Kevin Flynn.

Tron (remember the program created by Alan-1?) is in the movie...c'mon, the movie is called Tron afterall!

Olivia Wilds is gorgous. Viewers were only treated to a quick shot of her reclining on a couch, but geez, what a shot. Her costume was darker than the other characters.

The trailer will appear in front of Alice in Wonderland, which is coming out in March!

I've been wondering about how the character of Tron would be handled in this new picture, very glad he's in the movie!

Got a cool tee-shirt, a screening of footage, and a Q&A with the directors? Sounds pretty good to me. ;)

All I can hope is that they don't ignore the "Tron 2.0" video game. I would like to see Jet Bradley, Ma3a and Mercury once again.

Actually, in the Q&A, Joseph Kosinski was asked about how Tron 2.0 fits into the continuity. His reply was it doesn't fit into the continuity. :(

bummer,

i've been going onto the ingame multiplayer for a few years now... servers always up... but i can never find any humans :cryto throw my 'deadly discs' at...

So what if this new movie takes place on a different server, can't programs be transfered from one to another?

Granted it's been a while since i've seen TRON, but I wouldn't think there's that much continuity it'd have to stick to. The outside world would largely be it and there isn't much there. Nothing inside the 'tron world' - the inside of the computer - would likely be relevant. I mean, how relevant is the computer of 1980 to todays? Other than being an ancestor - not much.

Well that doesn't make any sense. There's too many connections between the game and the film (such as the neon green representing corrupted programs and the fact that the title of the film happens to be the title of Alan Bradley's unfinished program update for the Tron security program, which you have to get the pieces to and compile into Ma3a as one of the game's missions). I would think that Steven Lisberger would have had a say about that, since he was not only the director of the first film, but the consultant for the game (which he approved the opening digitalization scene himself as canon).

Oh well. Can't complain now.

There have been enough changes over the years in the industry and technology that canon can be pretty much rewritten to the needs of the film.

I thought the viral promotion at the convention was incredible. Sounds like they got a bit complacent at this latest marketing presentation. I am still very much looking forward to seeing the film when it comes out.

If I understood correctly, Joseph Kosinski stated it was on a different server in response to a question about whether movie goers will see Sark, the MCP and Yori, so while in theory programs could be transfered, they aren't going to be.

I agree. Disney really set the bar high with stuff they did at Comic Con; a Scavenger hunt that led to a fully built out Flynn's Arcade (with 80s video games), the life size lightcycle reveal and cool loot (t-shirts, posters, tokens and tickets). The t-shirts and posters also had codes which were revealed with a blacklight, codes that were used on the Flynnlives site to reveal the 1st trailer. While last Saturdays trailer preview was cool, it didn't live up to the hype or compare to what came before.

I caught Flynn's at Comicon. Awesome to see. Had talked with some of the guys there about the Space Paranoids as a future download or purchase. I built a Space Paranoids a few years back but theirs was MUCH cooler. My build was the first I ever did and definitely my roughest. In anticipation of this, my machine has dips for setting all software to read Space Paranoids Deluxe. I was hoping for more arcade crossover (like Vice Squad, Matrix Blaster, etc.) or even some of the artwork.

I hope their marketing keeps pace with the Comicon Flynn's- Really the most amazing part of the con for me. The Imagineering guys really are incredible. Been loving the campaign thus far.

Hello Programs!

According the the blog below, Disney is poised to make Tron a franchise the likes of Pirates. If things go as planned, Tron Legacy will the first movie in a trilogy. It also appears there are plans for a CG cartoon, a big merchandise push and an attraction at the themepark!

Frankly, that bugs me. That's more of what's wrong with hollywood today than anything else. God forbid you just make a good movie, but we gotta get toys out for it, gotta get that breakfast serial, turn it into a tv show, and don't forget the obligatory video game, etc, etc, etc. Why not try and make a good movie and then if it's good - go from there.

Was POTC a planned mini-industrial revolution thing? I thought it was just a movie they made that exploded, then they went from there.
