A movie about a brave group of men who fought and died in a time when the color of their skin made them worthless to ignorant people. I'm glad to see Lucas showing passion for this and completing it .

I keep forgetting there are SO many people on this board who do CGI SO much better, forgive me.

yea no kidding, with that type of air battle it has to be cg. It's still a trailer, it looks like a really entertaining movie and looks great.

Wooden acting, unsubtle dialog, gratuitous CGI... looks like a Lucasfilm to me!

But nothing gives me goosebumps like The Cadillac of the Sky!

Big screen fighter pilot films are incredibly few and far between, especially anything realistic, I'll deal with any CGI issues.

Hoping that this film delivers on the cockpit combat environment and shows
exactly what kind of knife fight it can become.

No, therefore it stands a chance of being good.

I've been waiting anxiously for this film for years. Thankfully it actually looks good. It's always so hit-or-miss with Lucas, I was a little concerned. But I'm sold so far.

I think the CGI looks good...it's not blatantly stylized like other films, you can tell that they were actually trying to replicate something this time around, and I think that made a huge difference.

No matter for me, because I can sit and stare at a B-17 all day, CGI or not

And this is the first movie I'm aware of that will show any P-51 on ME-262 combat. That's exciting.

Thankfully the story looks well put-together. But even if this was written personally by Michael Bay I would still end up seeing it. I'm an airman at heart and I just can't stay away from those darned airplanes.

thats the problem...you saw it was CGI.
I saw planes. I was responding to a complaint about CGI, so...

Now, deep down, I knew they were effects because that's how it is, and I knew they were CG and not physical models, because, again, that's how it is these days.

I'm a big fan of physical models but there's no point in crying about it every time a film doesn't use them. It would just make me needlessly bitter with a huge number of movie experiences.

I think the story will take over if the CGI isn't perfect. If you doubt that statement look up the show "Dogfights" on you local cable. I think it's a History Channel show. The CGI is good, but not photorealistic, but you quickly forget about that when they start telling the story.

Some Mustang drivers over at Airshowbuzz say that they were consulted. So that's a good sign.

I love the show "Dogfights." Battle of Leyte Gulf and Enterprise being my two favorites. I know the series they did of the Big E isn't dogfights but Battle 360; the same format none the less.

Hmm. Tough to tell from the trailer. Seems a bit...eh...unsubtle, as mentioned above. CGI is pretty obvious too, but nobody's making films like the old 50s and 60s air combat films, and frankly, it's probably a hell of a lot safer to do a film with CGI planes than actual ones. I just wish that CGI was used more to ENHANCE rather than to CREATE.

The acting...I can't really tell. I mean, I tend to set a somewhat lower bar for modern air combat films set during WWII. Memphis Belle, for example, is a nice film, if again somewhat unsubtle. The HBO movie on this from the mid 90s was also about as subtle as a jackhammer.

I guess when I say it's "unsubtle" what I really mean is that it doesn't seem to be acted in a natural fashion. It's larger-than-life and the statements are all these grand, inspiring statements...that are trying very very hard to be grand and inspiring. That kind of rubs me the wrong way, even though I've kind of come to expect it with WWII films.

Anyway, I'll probably catch this on Netflix rather than see it in the theaters.

Wow, guys! I'm as picky about CG and as miserable over its overuse as anyone - moreso than most - but there's not a lot wrong with those shots. I think it may have become a habit to come in swinging when we see CG in films. These shots could not have been accomplished practically (real world), and would have looked far worse with models and blue screen. What tool would you have liked for them to have used?

I do think that a (very) little camera shake could help out the shots a bit, but that's just a preference - I think it'd put the viewer in the situation and help them forget they're looking at VFX.

As for the grand moments - it is a trailer, which usually showcases those, and it is using a lot of the "pep talk" moments. Hopefully the majority of the scenes are a bit more natural - I see no reason to assume the whole film will play out like these scenes.

Here's hoping GL earns himself a bit of critical/fan redemption with this flick! I'm rooting for him.

Like I said earlier I'm glad they aren't filming like the 50s and 60s. Otherwise we'd have Brewster Buffalos and P40s redressed as German and Japanese planes. You can also add in rarer planes of which there are no flying (or none period) examples.

I hope we get some more WW2 movies in the future with CGI. It bugs the hell out of me to see Cold War era American tanks as "Panzers" in the older movies. I almost can't watch them.
