    Jul 31, 2012 - Trailer: Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" Part 1 #1

For some of us, this just might be more anticipated then the Nolan films.

I'll take this over Nolan's anytime. I still love the Animated series episode that showed a part of the storyline with Michael Ironside as batman.

Yeah that was just a fleeting taste!

Peter Weller is Batman this time.

I'm not sold on the Mutant Leader's voice, but if that's the worst thing I have to complain about, it's a good thing.

This looks like it was pulled straight from the graphic novel. Will Superman show?

    I'm certain.

If they monkeyed with this in any significant way fans would burn down DC's corporate offices. I would lead the mob.

They spelled it "The Dark NIGHT Returns".

But I'm still excited about it. And 2 Parts? That's really awesome.

Something about the DC animated adapations just hasn't set all that well with me. Something about the animations style that I can't really put my finger on... it's like the main foreground characters have no weight or are too bright or something.

...and I don't like the Mutant gang leader or Jim Gordon's voice. I hope they get the story right.

I agree that this is more anticipated. In fact, I rather watch this than Nolan's film.

As much as I enjoyed the original version, I just really dislike the cheap-**** animation that WB uses for these direct-to-DVD movies. "Dark Knight Returns" and "Batman: Year One" deserve a far higher level of animation quality, IMHO.

I'm not sure what to think. Peter Weller sounds a little off for this rendition of Batman. DKR Batman was older, sure, but he was also.. I dunno.. angrier. That he was always on the edge of exploding into a violent s***-fit at any moment. The tone is also a lot darker overall, and like Squirk said, it doesn't quite seem to mesh with the "feel" of the book, even though the characters all seem drawn more or less correctly.

I'm also not sure how some of what's in the book will carry over, especially the political stuff, and the TV stuff that would go on for pages in the book. No way they can just put it up on screen like that for two minutes, everyone would zone out.

I have a feeling this will end up being "DKR Lite". It'll be cool, but it'll lack the real punch that the book did. Glad I have this one in comic form, it's always been one of my favorites.

Well, that's kinda how All-Star Superman was (just to choose one). So much was missing from the movie, and it felt very shallow compared to the actual graphic novel. I like to view these DC animated films just to see the story in motion. However, the source material will always be far superior.

Peter Weller sounds too laid back. I liked Michael Ironsides' take on it from Legends of the Dark Knight.

After seeing this in the Batman Animated Series, I'll pass on this:

Also, it seems they misspelled "Knight" with "Night" in the MTV promo. Sheesh.

"The Dark Knight Returns" is one of my favourite graphic novels along with "The Killing Joke."

I agree wholeheartedly with what Jedi2016 said- Batman was definitely much more "on the edge" in the book.

It's been years (prehaps close to two decades ) since I last read it, however I remember it being extremely "adult" at times. Can't see all of it making it into the bluray if DC wants a wide target audience. And yes, the animation does seem a wee bit "cartoonish" for lack of a better description.

I actually passed on the Year One bluray. I might have to hear some positive feedback before grabbing this one (I totally felt burned by "Gotham Knight").

So... they've already adapted it? And I missed it. Darn.

You're definitely right about that. I'd highly recommend picking it up and reading it again. If anything, it gets even better reading it when you're older.

They just condensed it down. That Youtube link is the entire thing.

3 kids were telling each other what they thought Batman was really like. The first gave a 1950s take on it, with a 'classic' Robin.

Then they see their friend 'Joel' standing in front of a shoemakers store. [get it?] Joel says Batman wears a rubber suit and his car climbs buildings, and they say "right Joel".

    Then DKR.

Then a bad guy shows up and they make the bat signal with their flashlight....

The only bad part of that episode is the Firefly bit at the end is so lame compared to the DKR adaptation and the Dick Sprang bit before it.

Can't wait to see this one. This Graphic Novel changed comic history and revitalized the industry. I tell friends without this comic we probably wouldn't have any comicbook movies. Any decent ones anyway. I got chills just watching the trailer. Thanks for sharing.

Looks interesting,do agree it looks "cartoony" and you have to wonder the fact that the original would be a solid "R" rated film can they, and will they do that for the DVD version?

I was wondering the same thing. I can't see them including most of what the Joker did throughout the book. Or the activities of the Sons of Batman. Or, of course, the theater shooting.

How about The Joker's death? that whole bit at the amusement park was disturbing and twisted,if they give this a PG-13 I'll HAVE to watch to see how they pull this off (or screw it up)

I can recall The Dark Knight Returns being listed as an adult graphic novel...
