While I'm a BSG fan. Something was wrong with this series. It did not keep me interested as much as I had hoped.
With the way SGU is going, it's probably next... Last weeks "filler" episode sucked...
I tried several times to get into this show, but in the end, I couldn't. It was just to slow for me.
The first half of the season didn't really keep me interested, but the second half was just starting to pick up. The Cylons are finally being used for something. To bad, but not really surprising. Maybe if it had more wrestling Scifi, or syfy, or xifi, or whatever the hell they are now would have kept it......
And now as a starred commenter on io9, I get to deal with all the idiots coming out of the woodwork to post how the higher-ups at SyFy need to die and all the other crap that they always say when a decent show gets cancelled.
Blood and Chrome is the pitch for the First Cylon War and exactly what I've been looking for since before the end of NBSG.
Canceling Caprica to throw all their weight behind it is a great move in my opinion. They do this right and they'll have this old Centurion as loyal as I was to the NBSG even if it just winds up being a miniseries. Just hope they'll have the budget for some good battles.
SyFy is still around? I stopped watching once they started airing Wrasslin'.
Yeah I'm waiting for this announcement for SGU also. It's awful.
Its not the higher ups its either the writers don't care or they're not getting good writers and considering the quality of that channel's movies anymore i'm thinking it is both. I was never a huge stargate fan and i'm just now getting curious about the last 2 seasons of BSG. Hopefully the new show will be better for BSG fans. Stargate on the other hand I think they've pretty much run into the ground.
Now that they are done with that poor excuse for a show, let's see the events of that "First Cylon War" mural. Wouldn't mind some capital ship showdowns either
I like Caprica. It's slow. Maybe too slow. I hope the show finishes strong and isn't just cut off. I don't know why the article says they will show the final 5 episodes next year...

Now they need to do a spit shine or junk the new "V". That shows just as bad.
So much potential wasted. The show just never got anywhere... they tried, I think that maybe they tried too hard.
I'm still not sure how they thought the show would work in the manner they presented it. Too messy, too slow... but again, so much potential.
I don't watch a whole lot of TV.. this was one of a few episodic programs I watch... so in that fashion, I will miss it... but it was mostly just something to fill the time (I watch my TV in the morning - usually after I get home from work with breakfast).
I guess I can't wait for V to return as my sole Sci-Fi taste of TV - like Caprica it's too slow - but not as messy with plots and subplots.
I never watched the show, but what I heard was that it was a separate concept with the BSG "lore" written overtop of the basic concept in order to sell the series.
When I hear stuff like that, it makes me think:
- The underlying concept is weak, and it's being sold on branding alone. Ask yourself: if they stripped out any reference to "Cylons" and simply referred to them as "Arties" (for "artificial humanoids") or whatever, if the family name of one of the families was Jackson instead of Adama, would anyone give a crap?
- The underlying concept is pretty good, but will be dragged down by reliance on "the lore" of the other series. They'll have to compromise this or that to tie things together, and end up not really satisfying anyone.
Most of the time with "after-the-fact" IP associations, I think it's destined for failure. It's not close enough to the established IP to be worth a damn, and it's not good enough on its own to stand on its own two feet.
I don't know why but I watched the first season. I think BSG worked because it combined the drama with the military action aspect of the show. Caprica is just too slow. Not to mention it's a prequel which causes it's own problems.
I'm also skeptical at this point that a series based on the first Cylon war with a younger Commander Adama would work either. It would be more action packed but there's just not a way to have an ongoing series that is a prequel to a series that takes place "in their future" and doesn't cause continuity problems.
I think I'm now fundamentally opposed to even the notion of prequels in any form. That's just my own opinion of course...
I watched the first half of Craprica, but just couldn't be bothered with anymore talk of One God Cults and Terrorists. I hated the non-scifi ending of BSG, which colored my reception of Craprica.
I just hope that they give it any kind of wrap-up and not a chop block ending. For those who did watch it, I hope that they could throw us a bone.

One thing I HATED in Caprica is that they made absolutely no attempt to make the props look either futuristic or look like they are from another planet. At least in the first SciFi BSG they stuck something on the guns to make them look different. In Caprica nothing is changed, the cars are even the same.
Which only further hints at the non-BSG origin of the show.
