    Mar 7, 2010 - Surrogates (Bruce Willis) #1

Just did a search and couldn't find a thread on this film - did anyone else see this one? Just watched it on Blu-Ray, and it was more enjoyable than I was expecting it to be. Predictable, sure - but not a bad way to spend 83 minutes in sci-fi land. I loved how they made the surrogates look so plastic and bland. Reminded me of the first time I visited LA, heh.

I enjoyed it as well though after the poor reviews it got I'm not surprised. If the critics hate it, it's usually pretty good.

Though it's script is not Hamlet, it made for an enjoyable movie to me.

The concept scares the hell out of me, because I can see the public doing exactly what they do in the movie... disappear into their rooms, and let their Surrogates do their living for them. Shudder.

I wondered if it was any good. I like just about anything Willis is in.

I loved it, and don't get it why sci-fi always gets a bad rap, though some of the cheesy stuff does deserve it.

We may not be far from it, as some live most of their lives online, work and social.

Am I the only one that actually saw it in the theater? Not groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it.

The only thing I had issue with is that if all the humans stayed at home, laying on a couch controlling their avatar/surrogate, wouldn't they be muscle atrophied, fat lazy blobs... like the people in Wall-E?

A nice surprise; not great but not bad either. I enjoyed it. Also, the surrogates plastic look was done digitally. If you watch the deleted scenes they look normal.

I inferred that they unplug when their Surrogates power down to charge. I assume the people eat/pee/sleep as "normal"... I saw at least one catheter-like attachment to clothing, which I thought was a nice touch.

My only "pull you out of the film using logic" moment was the thought:

"How do all these regular workin' stiffs afford the Surrogates?!" There's no way these things are cheap, and I can't see people being able to have them in the numbers that they do at the prices they'd be charging... unless it's like cars? Lol. I know, it's just a movie

Watched it the other day. Aside from a couple of points like Moff and others brought up, I enjoyed it pretty well.

I saw it at the theater and liked it. My only complaint was it was a little short, I wanted more

If you liked it. Read the graphic novel. Adds to the movie a lot more.

Yeah...a good movie, I enjoyed it. Perhaps it would have needed a better development...but all in all, a cool movie.

It's like one of my teachers said last semester, very much the same as the ipod. When it first came out, some people thought it was cool and got it. Over time, it went from "I want an ipod" to "I need an ipod". When demand goes up, so does supply, and larger supply generally means lower prices, means more demand. Look at cell phone prices in the 80s compared to now.
