    May 25, 2012 - Strangest CD(s) you own? #1

For me it has to be a compilation of Hit Parade instrumentals from the 60s including the themes from Mission Impossible, James Bond, Magnificent Seven, and Exodus. I say it's strange is these songs aren't the normal 60s stuff someone my age probably would listen to. It's also why my 20 something friends tease me about being an old geezer.

Well, it's on vinyl, but I've got a copy of "Two Sides of Spock" by Leonard Nimoy. On one side he sings as Nimoy and on the other as Spock.

    It's really terrible.

Ive also got an album of polka music that has a guy in a gorilla suit playing an accordion on the cover. I've never listened to it.

I remember getting records from the local library when i was in preschool and there was one about a robot mouse narrated by Nimoy and its been so long (i'm 33) that i have no clue now. I also loved the copy of War of the worlds they had on record. Wish i'd known when they went to sell those. So many interesting things that will never make it to official cd release.

You beat me to it. BTW, it is "Two sides of Leonard Nimoy". There are two pictures of him on the cover, with and without pointy ears.
The LP is two-sided, and one side has songs that are inspired by Star Trek. Tracks titles include "Spock Thoughts" and "Highly Illogical"...

Apparently, Leonard Nimoy was a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien. The record has Nimoy's infamous song "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins".
There is also a video for that song, which you can find on Youtube, which is even stranger than anything on the record. I think that the song would work inside Tolkien's world, but the video is not even close. There are a bunch of young girls jumping around with pointy ears and badges with "Leonard Nimoy For The UN". A real WTF moment.

BTW. Don't you think that Peter Jackson should give Leonard Nimoy a cameo in The Hobbit, just for the fun of it? I, personally, would love to see that.

    Probably this one:

Figured it was a compliation disc of orchestra music...

It's all synthesizer. Some of it sounds like what the theme would be if it was for a 70s tv game show.

It does have the disco version of Star Wars on there.

Darth Lars - Thanks for the correction. I haven't actually seen it in years. It's in the box of things I can't beat to part with, in the storage closet.

I'd completely forgotten about the Bilbo Baggins song. Thanks also for that painful reminder!

That's a great album ( i have it on cassette)

My strangest would have to be anything by Fantomas. (members of Faith no more, The Melvins and Slayer). They usually "skip" a track 13 on their disks, or they are just a moment silence ( 13 after is the unlucky number)

In particular, Suspended Animation....It is a concept album that incorporates a dual theme of cartoon sounds/music as well as paying tribute to obscure and dubious holidays throughout the month of April (like national shrimp scampi day). 30 "songs". One named for each day of the month.

Of course the first album was pretty strange. It was the soundtrack to a comic book.

My favorite though has to be Director's Cut. All the songs are more or less recognizable cover versions of movie themes

    1."The Godfather" (Nino Rota) – 2:45
    2."Der Golem" (Karl Ernst Sasse) – 2:38
    3."Experiment in Terror" (Henry Mancini) – 2:40
    4."One Step Beyond" (Harry Lubin) – 2:57
5."Night of the Hunter (Remix)" (Walter Schumann) – 0:58
    6."Cape Fear" (Bernard Herrmann) – 1:49
    7."Rosemary's Baby" (Krzysztof Komeda) – 3:20
8."The Devil Rides Out (Remix)" (James Bernard) – 1:37
    9."Spider Baby" (Ronald Stein) – 2:25
10."The Omen (Ave Satani)" (Jerry Goldsmith) – 1:49
11."Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" (Robert McNaughton) – 3:07
    12."Vendetta" (John Barry) – 2:03
    13.Untitled – 0:05
14."Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion" (Ennio Morricone) – 4:00
15."Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" (Angelo Badalamenti) – 3:28
    16."Charade" (Henry Mancini) – 3:04

I have Charles Manson's "Commemoration" CD, recorded live from his prison cell. Surprisingly, a few of the tunes aren't that bad.

Since it's restricted to CDs, I'll go with Dread Zeppelin's 5,000,000 or Scatterbrain's Here Comes Trouble (featuring their hit "Don't Call Me Dude"). Both strange, but highly listenable.

It must be a copy I have of something called Raumschiff Enterprise. It's an audio rendition of a Next Generation episode (voices, sound effects, etc.). The oddity is that it's all in German. I think it's the Stargazer/Ferengi episode from season one...

    ">

I got this album from the artist, after I had to move him on from the front of a Louis Vuitton store.

The instrument he was playing that day was what was left of a tree with parts of musical instruments attached.

I have still ot been able to play this cd for more than 30 seconds, and I have had it for over 10 years

    Make that 3 of us.

And the Stargazer/Ferengi episode was called "The Battle" from season 1 of TNG.

The only one that springs to mind is Tubthumper by Chumbawamba. Everybody knows the song "Tubthumping", but the rest of the album is just as strange.

I was going to say the same thing, but some of Waits' CDs are reasonably mainstream.

Instead, I'm gonna go with either a stupid CD of Christmas songs "sung" by dogs and cats ("Jingle Cats", stuff like that) or The In Sound From Way Out - Electronic Pop Music of the Future recorded in 1966 by Perrey & Kingsley.

So do I, and I'm proud of it damnit! I built one of my Proton Packs while essentially watching the movie on repeat... I feel like I may like them too much.
