"A thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself."

I didn't realize this was a trilogy of books written by del Toro/Hogan, even though it was originally intended as a TV show. I'm about 2/3 through the first book and I like the pace of it. I should have no problem getting through the entire trilogy before it comes out on TV.

*I didn't see a dedicated thread for this so I figured I would start one up.

I kept seeing the ads and wondered what this was going to be about. I had planned to watch it but I definitely will now.

I'm gonna give it a miss for a bit, at least until I see if they renew it. this strikes me as a longer form narrative which could end up going totally awry or end up being abruptly cancelled.

The books are amazing! I love the characterisation of the vampires as a degenerative disease of sorts, but also includes some of the horror/spiritual aspects. I think they explain it all very well. I thought this was going to be a miniseries? I'm really looking forward to this!

Isn't it? I figured the same... and kind of hope they run it out as more of a macro-series... like the length of a regular series season to make sure it's hashed out right. I don't think each book has enough material to fill an entire season on its own. But given that it does have a finite amount of source material I hope they don't drag it out beyond the length of the books.

Seeing a book like this really makes me wish that some director would make the Necroscope series of books into a movie franchise. THAT is my DREAM book to film adaptation.

i second the Necroscope series the best Vamphyri ever,i have the comics ,haven't read them yet...AS for The Strain, good books i hope it gets made right

Sounds like a zombie/vampire mashup. I hope they don't touch Necroscope because nothing can compare to the greatness of those books.

I read the first book and am seriously looking forward to seeing how things play out in the series. It should be a fun, creepy ride.

Knowing nothing of the books, I watched this last night. I was pretty impressed. Some of the stuff seems kind of cliché nowadays with soo many vampire and zombie movies/TV shows out there. But it did what it could to make stuff seem fresh and it had some pretty creepy parts to it. A nice hold over until TWD comes back in October.

I enjoyed it. I don't usually go for the scary, icky stuff, but it was good. It will be interesting to see how Sean Astin's character plays out.

I liked how the "master" vampire-thing scurried away in that weird spider-like way rather than flying or walking. I'd soil my skivvies if I saw something like that running around.

I enjoyed it quite a lot. They've really skewed the timeline somewhat and I was a little bummed they didn't use the eclipse we saw in the trailers and in the book, but overall I'm digging it. :)

I was wondering what this show was, it was on twice last night back to back but i wasn't sure if it was the first episode and didn't want to come into it halfway thru the storyline.

I enjoyed it. I liked how it crushed the airport guys head to keep him from coming back. There are some things I hope get answered later on.

I'm sold on keeping an eye on it for now after watching the pilot. I've not read the books, but I can't believe no one at the airport had ever read "Dracula" They should have known there was a problem with the plane (ship) arrived with no one alive on board.

Well, there was a sign in the airport stating "Feb 12 Eclipse" The first date listed was Feb 8, and by the end of the episode it's Feb 9.
