Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Very cool...love it. Great to hear the music again knowing it'll be up on the big screen.
Dig the Troopers, New Sith Blade...heck, lots to love here but I will admit that the first scene with the helmet-less trooper....I thought it was another fan parody and nearly shut it off. LOL!!

OK so now my question isn't so much who's narrating but 'who' exactly is he speaking to? He says "Have you felt it?" So okay, who's speaking but WHO is he directing the question to?

Feeling great about this....very happy.

Hmm, the Prequel was too original, this is not original enough. Can't please everyone.......:rolleyes

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

LucasFilm has already said they are not clones regardless of your personal head canon. You can't sing the trailer for something that's based on a false pretense.
We've had this debate, I don't know why you won't look at another view.

I understand that they're not supposed to be clones anymore... I get it, it's not in my head. That doesn't stop that we have movies that setup Clones as Stormtroopers... and this changes that. The public perception is that Stormtroopers are clones, because more of them saw Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, Empire, Return... and those set up Stormtroopers are clones.

You can say Lucasfilm said this, you can say the cartoon did that, but that doesn't change what the movies did. Maybe there is some explanation and reasonings in The Force Awakens... but, I stand by my statements that it's lazy and it's a forced retcon --- I'll even add that it's akin to Greedo shooting (first).

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Like I said there are several movies that setup Stormtroopers as clones. That's not debatable. It's LAZY and sets up too many questions.
The prequels established that the original troopers were clone, but my understanding is that by the time of ANH, most of the troopers were recruited humans, not much clones left in the bunch. I don't see why they would go back to clones now ? Other than that, the way the scenes are shot feels very modern, like that battalion of troopers ready to deploy looks like something you'd see in a modern gritty war movie. I like it. The three-blade saber ? Gonna need to see it in action to decided, but the medieval shape is a bit weird.
I wasn't born when ANH opened in theatres, I'm really hoping The Force Awakens can be for me the same experience you guys had when you first saw ANH !

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The clones died out due to accelerated ageing and were replaced by conscripts and volinteers according to canon.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

It's hard not to get excited when that music starts up and the Falcon shows up. That will never get old.

You are the only fan who thinks that. You are making all these incorrect assumptions. No, most people don't think they are clones, you do. No the films never established they were supposed to be clones, you just think that. At 95% of the movie going public have never even given it a second thought.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

AWESOME. Most people would be sweaty too if they knew they'd be in the first shot the public will see of EP 7 :D

I think this movie has a lot of potential, and the trailer was purely a glimpse into the new aesthetic. Once we see more story elements show up, it's going to be awesome, and I think when the original characters are seen, the nostalgia mixed with the new will be something to behold.

Maybe that stormtrooper in the beginning just felt the force awaken haha. An ex-stormtrooper jedi!

I'm going to go play with my star wars figures now :lol

...any word yet that if this is the same trailer being shown in theaters? There were rumors of different versions.

Can we get back to the Teaser and end the long drawn out debates that will never have a win/loose, answer/outcome? Minds are made up on both sides of the coin and wont change. This endless bickering is pointless....

How many people saw these movies and you're making an assumption based on all of them?

:facepalm

We will have 5 movies that have implied strongly that Stormtroopers are clones - and a huge chunk of folks who have seen these movies think Stormtroopers are clones... because there is nothing in these movies that show us otherwise (other than a minor height difference here or there). This is about what we're shown in the films... there is just too much in those movies that say this and there is nothing to show the contrary.

It's lazy, lazy, lazy. It's retconning something that's a given. Will people accept it? Yes. Does that make it right? No.

I expect better of Star Wars - and maybe there is some rational explanation in the movie (that I still can't wait to see), I'm still going to guess that there could be a better way to go about this.

I'm done debating clones and troopers. :)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Don't know why people are questioning whether they hear a probe droid sound right before The Trooper Awakens. It's quite obvious and distinctive as a sound effect. :p

Initial VO sounds like Max von Sydow. Whoever says "the Dark Side and the Light" is a different voice. Always two there are?

Everything else I like. Also, the Stormtroopers (OT and TFA) may or may not be clones, but what they are not are 100% Jango clones. There might be five hundred different clone lines by the time of ANH, hence why they all look different... or none. But I do agree that if the new, canon SW galaxy is anything like the one in the ex-EU reference books, the population is easily enough that if only 0.1% of a planetary population signs up, they'll still have billions of Stormtroopers.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Everyone is complaining about the lightsaber design. But I keep pondering on it and its functionality might come into play when someone else tries to chop the hand holding that saber, but they won't be able to do it easily this time.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Oh hey, do we get a teaser poster soon too then?! The TPM and AOTC teaser posters were great. I don't recall the ROTS one.
