Why does every last detail have to change from film to sequel?
Here's to hoping its some sort of dress uniform. They look like postman to me.
Its clearly some sort of dress/event uniform, I mean the hat??
Looking at the pattern there, it resembles the TMP costume pattern, like the one Pike wore at the end ceremony in the previous one.
But yeah, hats seem an odd choice. Makes em look like Parker from Thunderbirds.
Looks like it might be some kind of ceremonial uniform rather than standard wear.
I hope they use the TOS style costumes again, it was nice that they tipped the hat to the classic design in the first movie.
Looks interesting. The hats remind me of those worn by Russian military.
I was going to say it looks like WW2 uniforms, which wouldn't be as bad but really putting a giant Starfleet insignia in the middle of the hat? It just looks tacky.
I don't see the problem and certainly don't see them looking anything like German uniforms. More British mixed with Russian.
Your papers, please.
Your papers are not in order. You will come with us.
They don't look Nazi to me. They really just remind me of a military cadet dress uniform.
Yeah, they remind me of '09 Pike's TMP-style uniform with TOS Pike's hat. Considering we'll see this uniform in maybe one scene I don't think it'll be that big of a deal.
Very Soviet Army, I thought. No wonder Chekov looks so happy.
Well, they're depressingly military looking, but then I thought the same about the WOK uniforms, until I got used to them.
And there's precedent, with Captain Pike's hat in "The Cage."
I note how they added a circle and "wings" to the star fleet delta logo on the hat... Kind of a jumping off point for the later TMP and TNG versions I guess, if we're talking continuity.
I note Scotty has got commander's stripes on his sleeve, as well as two stars on his epaulettes (!). WOK-style over-ranking: those costumes had rank on both shoulder bar and sleeve as well. And for that matter, two star fleet emblems (chest and belt) also.

Well, seeing as the first movie started with an aggressive attack that clearly made Starfleet more militaristic resulting in a different look of the Enterprise... it seems to fit that they'd go with that type of uniforms... even if they are just parade/dress uniforms for social appearances.
Has to be a dress/ceremonial uniform of some sort because other pics have already shown the same uniforms from 2009 Trek.
Even in modern military, hats like that are never part of the standard working uniform, they're always reserved for dress uniforms (with the rare exception where the daily working uniform is the dress uniform, like embassy guards and the like).
There's always been variations based on department as well (Scotty and Chekov have always worn different colors). In all of Trek, that's never changed, and I see no reason for it to change now.
So I'm going to jump on the "It's a dress uniform" bandwagon. We'll probably only see those costumes for a few minutes.
