Of all the films ever made, there's somewhat of a standardized list of must see material that is sure to put you in the oddball category should you not have seen these yourself.

Me, I have never seen Star Wars...
Gone with the Wind
On the Waterfront
Will see them this summer though.
Doug
Godfather...
Scarface...
Any movie before 1978 I think?
Tron. its probably more than this
i know i have seen alien, but i cant remember anything of it as it was at least 10 years ago
Scarface, Big Labowski, Caddyshack...
A Christmas Story, Never seen it
Seems to be a popular film in the USA but rarely shown (if at all) here in the UK
Casablanca
It's A Wonderful Life
Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank, any mob movies, most of the Lethal weapon and diehard movies. I've actually seen more movies from the 40s-70s than anything.
Indiana Jones. Any of them.
But most of the others mentioned I have seen. Godfather is excellent. Scarface is VERY OVERRATED IMHO. I've heard the original is MUCH BETTER, but I've never seen that version. Shawshank is possibly my favorites of the movies listed, and Star Wars. Loath Xmas Story. Probably because I've seen it 752 times over the years. If I hear "You'll shoot your eye out" once more on Christmas, I may not participate in Christmas anymore.
No, looking over the list, I can say I've never even heard of "On the Waterfront". But yes, I've never seen any of the Indiana Jones movies. I am waiting for someone to say they've never seen BTTF though.
so, what do we consider staples, anyway? imdb's list of the top 250 movies? any other list?
just curious![]()

Other AFI's Lists given in the above page, though their first 100 Movies list from 1998 is the one which is more famous.
Caddyshack
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Here are some of the ones I have never seen.
Trilogies or more:
Pirates of the Carrabien (any of them)
Lord of the Rings (last two)
The Matrix (none of them)
Harry potter flick (none)
Twilight movies (none - and never will)
Godfather films (none)
Regular films:
Shawshank
Bladerunner
Anything with Johny Depp
I'll have to think on this more.
Also a few Movies I wish I could unsee:
ALL of the Noland Batmans
Tron Legacy
Captian America
The Maltese Falcon, The Graduate, American Graffiti, All the President's Men ...
I've seen almost all of them numerous times. Missed a few of the silents.
That's what makes this place interesting...or puzzling![]()
Same here on both.
Same here on The Godfather. And when you say Scarface, do you mean the Howard Hawk movie or the De Palma remake? Because I've seen the Howard Hawk one, and that was a good one. The remake I refuse to see after sitting through 10 minutes of the opening.
There's a few that I'm sure I haven't seen, but I can't think of them off the top of my head right now.
Its not a movie, but I am now up to watching the 3rd season of LOST on Netflix... Somehow I managed to go through life without knowing how the show ends...
