You mean the fully self-sustaining life boat that wasn't on the ship anymore? Janek ejected that when Vickers was still on the bridge, I think. So she didn't really have much choice but to use the escape pod. It was either that, or just jump out a window.. the life boat was already on the ground by that time (that was where the Engineer bought it, remember).
Yeah, Janek took an executive decision there. Maybe her getting to the lifeboat and activating it just wasn't going to be possible in the time available, versus getting to an ejection capsule just down the hall. The ship is 560 feet long and quite a few decks. Anyway, whatever, not an issue IMO.
Seriously, who would have stayed with the captain and not gone on to spend two years in a lifeboat with a beautiful blonde?!
We saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good as a prequel to the prequel to alien. Maybe she and David made it to their home planet, let lose the bio weapon, one alien got away infected to the original alien plant we now and love. Does anyone know if the is to be another movie?

DELETE Several people beat me to the punch on my reply.
Interesting article about the original sapce jockey design which was 27 feet long. I knew this when seeing the new space jockey compared to the humans in Prometheus I said they were way out of scale compared to the original.
Everything we know about Ridley Scott's Space Jockeys
Possibly, but one thing which isn't out of scale is the Juggernaut herself. That scale drawing - Prometheus, the compound, pyra-mound, Juggernaut and silo - tickles me no end; shows it is bang on the same size range as the original Derelict, namely 1000' long.
(Original was 1/96 or close to it and ten feet according to various sources. Can anyone verify?) Anyway, nice job, production!
I really didn't care for the look of the two Aliens at the end!
I know Prometheus is already in release. But, there is already a spoiler thread in this forum... can we keep the spoilers there or in tags for a little while longer?
Normally yes, but then again this has been a spoiler thread for over two years now, since the very first post, in fact.![]()
I don't recall any hardcore spoiler out in the open until the last few days. With there being TWO THREADS one that seems a pretty OBVIOUS spot for spoilers - I thought this thread would be safe until I can see the movie (hopefully tomorrow).
Most of the thread has been good about hiding the more obvious spoilers with tags or keeping them in the other thread.
Yeah, there's only 2000 posts.. can't be that hard to read through in a week.
Seriously, though, you'd think after all this time, something would have leaked through.. hehe.
like how they can shrink from 27' tall to only 9' tall
I don't get the complaints about this. I enjoyed it. The planet with the ships was NOT the same one that was discovered by the Nostromo or the colony in Aliens. That was LV-426 and this was LV-223. I was expecting it to bookend into Alien, but now, I'm kinda glad it didn't.
Where does this 27' figure comes from, anyway?
I think maybe the entire original space jockey prop, including the chair and telescope, might have been 27' long. A 27' tall humanoid would have a head that is 4-5' tall, and that is CLEARLY not what we saw in Alien.
In Prometheus, David stood up to just over the waist/tummy region of the engineer. Fassbender is 6' tall, so that puts the engineer somewhere in the neighborhood of 10' tall.
Scott used his kids in some of the shots in the egg room next to the space jockey, to make it look bigger, so in some of the shots he is pretty massive compared to people.
Even then, I think the figure would have to include the telescope. Thank you guys for tackling that one, works for me.
I have no problem with 10 or 12 foot jockeys. I'd still far rather they were bioengineered elephanty things but eh. Now we get a nice biohelmet prop to replicate.
According to the "Giger's Alien" book the space jockey set, in his chair with the scope thing was 26 foot high in total & that was mounted on a turntable set that was 5 foot high.
HTH
Edit: I worded that badly, I'm suggesting that the entire thing with the turntable was in total 26 foot high![]()
