Are you asking about the Prometheus as a movie set or real spaceship?

I just googled your question and this is one of the things I found... just an example..
Any and all sets are made from materials that are available, including wood, plaster, plastic and metal (depending primarily on how strong the set is required to be, as well as the look as developed by the production designer). There are exceptions where other types of materials were used, such as the entire Whoville exteriors from the live-action The Grinch Who Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey, which used styrofoam.
For how to build the doors, that go straight up or two doors opening horizontally, it's easy to explain. For walls that go up, they're designed with slots that hold the door in place when it's closed. Since it's on a soundstage, they most likely use a pully system where one (or more) grips pull the door up when they are cued, lock it off to make sure it remains open and they would also lower it back down in place when also cued. For two doors that open into the walls, the same sort of thing, but the doors have a railing that is installed on the top. You know how drawers for a dresser are designed, where they're on wheels that roll on rails? The same is true with the two-doors design. The walls themselves are hollow, so when it comes to opening and close of doors, grips have the ability to open and close the doors of screen when they are cued.
So theres no possible way to build a real working door like that?
And thanks for the help with the set materials.
Well for the big door, you'd have to use pulleys with motors and steel cables to be open to close a real big metal door like that. For the two door, you could do this, but it wouldn't be smooth or stay open like seen on Star Trek. Basically, it's plausible, but not 100% as you see in the movies or TV shows.
You're welcome for the info. I learned a lot in film school, which includes building sets.
Lot's of places over in Burbank and the surrounding area build sets like this. You may want to ask these guys:
Tribal Scenery
Or our own Studio Art + Technology, or HMS...
Thanks everyone for the info i know its an odd thread but i saw the movie and was wondering so i thought to ask.
The only stupid question is the one you dont ask.
It's no problem, Cadena. You just have to keep in mind that when it comes to sets, the materials that are used to construct them also depends on the requirements for what is being shot. A good example is in this video, the pirate ship being constructed with a metal frame, drywall boards, foam boards and wood. So, it really depends on the requirements set forth in the script and what the production designer comes up with too.
